Using only the post-training compression

Hi there!

Thank you for the great work. I was wondering if it's possible to do just the post-training compression (eg. pruning) on pre-trained models (.ply) without training from scratch. Thanks.

Thanks for your interest! For now, I haven't written a user-friendly script for compressing .ply files directly. I could put together a script to add this feature quickly.

By the way, would you share your requirements for .ply compression? Would you prefer to keep the output in .ply format? Are you only interested in pruning, rather than other compression techniques like sorting and image coding?

Yes, I'd personally prefer ply -> ply for the pruning. I think other methods like sorting and image coding are great but I use some other solutions (eg. nerfstudio) to train splats usually, so I'd like to compress pre-trained ply directly without re-training. Thanks.
