From 3ffae4037cdc8a2573954c3de74eb113ee89957b Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Darrien Rushing Date: Mon, 2 Nov 2026 23:31:28 -0600 Subject: [PATCH] Let the chat answer questions about GitHub repos that aren't cloned Picking a GitHub-only repo in a new searchable picker in the chat panel fetches a snapshot from GitHub (repo details, language breakdown, top-level files, README), stores it in a new github_repo_snapshots table, and feeds it to the model as the current repository. Snapshots refresh after 24h (GITLIB_SNAPSHOT_REFRESH_HOURS) or on demand; if GitHub can't be reached the chat falls back to the stored snapshot or listing data and says so. - core: RemoteRepoContext prompt blocks, capped list, and neutralization of GitHub-sourced text - web: `remote` field on /api/chat (owner/repo, exclusive with `repo`), validated against the account's listing; syncRemoteRepo server function - tests for prompt building, protocol, snapshot parsing and fetching, and the chat route Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 --- apps/web/src/components/chat-panel.tsx | 150 ++++++++-- apps/web/src/lib/chat-protocol.ts | 17 +- apps/web/src/lib/repo-snapshot.ts | 133 +++++++++ apps/web/src/lib/use-chat.ts | 6 +- apps/web/src/routes/api.chat.ts | 4 +- apps/web/src/server/chat.server.ts | 13 +- apps/web/src/server/chat.ts | 15 + apps/web/src/server/repo-snapshot.server.ts | 150 ++++++++++ apps/web/test/chat-protocol.test.ts | 10 + apps/web/test/chat-route.test.ts | 91 +++++- apps/web/test/repo-snapshot.test.ts | 293 ++++++++++++++++++++ packages/core/src/ai/context.ts | 131 ++++++++- packages/core/src/app.ts | 18 +- packages/core/src/store.ts | 35 +++ packages/core/test/chat.test.ts | 117 ++++++++ 15 files changed, 1147 insertions(+), 36 deletions(-) create mode 100644 apps/web/src/lib/repo-snapshot.ts create mode 100644 apps/web/src/server/repo-snapshot.server.ts create mode 100644 apps/web/test/repo-snapshot.test.ts diff --git a/apps/web/src/components/chat-panel.tsx b/apps/web/src/components/chat-panel.tsx index b00b365..a4e1397 100644 --- a/apps/web/src/components/chat-panel.tsx +++ b/apps/web/src/components/chat-panel.tsx @@ -1,14 +1,17 @@ import { useMatch } from "@tanstack/react-router"; -import { BookMarked, Library, RefreshCw, Send, Square, Trash2, TriangleAlert } from "lucide-react"; -import { memo, useEffect, useRef, useState, type FormEvent, type KeyboardEvent } from "react"; +import { RefreshCw, Send, Square, Trash2, TriangleAlert } from "lucide-react"; +import { memo, useEffect, useMemo, useRef, useState, type FormEvent, type KeyboardEvent } from "react"; import { MarkdownBody } from "#/components/markdown-body"; import { Button } from "#/components/ui/button"; +import { RelativeTime } from "#/components/relative-time"; import { NativeSelect } from "#/components/ui/native-select"; +import { SearchSelect, type SearchSelectOption } from "#/components/ui/search-select"; import { Sheet, SheetContent, SheetDescription, SheetHeader, SheetTitle } from "#/components/ui/sheet"; import { Textarea } from "#/components/ui/textarea"; import { MAX_TURN_CHARS } from "#/lib/chat-protocol"; import { useChat, type ChatMessageView } from "#/lib/use-chat"; -import { getChatStatus, type ChatStatus } from "#/server/chat"; +import { getCatalog } from "#/server/catalog"; +import { getChatStatus, syncRemoteRepo, type ChatStatus, type RemoteSync } from "#/server/chat"; const MODEL_KEY = "gitlib:chat-model"; @@ -51,16 +54,103 @@ function useChatStatus(open: boolean) { return { result, retry: () => setAttempt((count) => count + 1) }; } -function ScopeChip({ repo }: { repo: string | null }) { - const Icon = repo ?
