I loved playing Crack Attack! back in the 2000s. I spent hours swapping blocks and chasing chains, and I never forgot it. Twenty years after its last release, I wanted to modernize its stack, taking advantage of what AI now makes possible.
The game was created by Daniel R. Nelson (@AluminumAngel) in 2000, then developed and maintained by R. Andrew Sayman (@gnu-lorien), with Kevin Webb and other contributors. Many thanks to both of you for this game, and for releasing it as free software, which made this rewrite possible. The original C++ code is still available at gnu-lorien/crack-attack.
What this project is
A rewrite of Crack Attack! 1.1.14 in Rust. The game logic is ported rule by rule from the original, so the gameplay you remember is still there, running on a wgpu renderer and SDL3, on Linux, Windows and macOS. It's free software under GPL-3.0-or-later.
The first public beta, 2.0.0-beta.1, is out: download it from the releases page.
