Builds on @W1zago's arch branch (his four commits are kept) and puts the Arch package next to the Fedora one instead of in its place.

Layout

packaging/fedora/fancontrol-linux.spec   (COPR, via .copr/Makefile)
packaging/arch/PKGBUILD                  (AUR, via tools/aur-publish.sh)
packaging/arch/fancontrold-restart.hook

.SRCINFO is not kept in this repo — tools/aur-publish.sh generates it in the AUR repository.

Changes on top of the arch branch

  • README / README.uk: Fedora (COPR) stays; a new "Arch Linux: from the AUR" section sits beside it; the update section lists both. The live-tested table and the SELinux section are back as on main.
  • CI: Ubuntu, Fedora and Arch (the Arch container now does pacman -Syu).
  • PKGBUILD: # Maintainer: W1zago, # Contributor: 4bit33; pkgver follows the program's version (a test checks it); fancontrol-linux-nvidia is an optional dependency; the header explains how to build the current checkout without a release.
  • pacman hook: also fires for fancontrol-linux-nvidia and on removal, so adding or removing the NVIDIA drop-in restarts the daemon.
  • aur-publish.sh: checksums the exact URL the PKGBUILD downloads.
  • Test fix: the daemon lifecycle test passes the source tree to its helper process; it only worked where the program was also installed, so makepkg's check() failed it.

Checked

  • Arch container: makepkg builds both packages, check() passes (424 tests), both install; unit uses /usr/bin/python, update notice says yay.
  • Fedora 44 container: SRPM via .copr/Makefile from the new spec path, RPM builds, tests pass.
  • Local: 424 tests.

@W1zago, please try on your Arch machine

git fetch && git switch arch-package
ver=$(sed -n 's/^pkgver=//p' packaging/arch/PKGBUILD)
git archive --prefix=Fancontrol-linux-$ver/ -o packaging/arch/fancontrol-linux-$ver.tar.gz HEAD
cd packaging/arch && makepkg -si
sudo systemctl enable --now fancontrold && fanctl status

and tell us what fanctl status and fanctl doctor show on the laptop.

Updated hardware specifications in the README for accuracy.
Packaging moves to packaging/fedora/ and packaging/arch/; .SRCINFO is left
to tools/aur-publish.sh, which generates it in the AUR repository. The
READMEs and CI keep Fedora and gain Arch alongside it.

PKGBUILD: W1zago maintains it; pkgver follows the program's version, with a
test, and its header says how to build the checkout without a release. The
NVIDIA package is offered as an optional dependency, and the pacman hook
also restarts the daemon when that package comes or goes, so the drop-in
takes effect. aur-publish.sh checksums the same URL the PKGBUILD downloads.
CI updates the Arch container fully before installing (-Syu).

The helper process did not inherit pytest's sys.path, so the test only
passed where fancontrol was also installed, as in CI; makepkg's check()
on Arch failed it. Pass the source tree through PYTHONPATH.

Added @W1zago's amd commit from his fork (authorship kept): install.sh now takes python-dasbus from the Arch repos and checks for a working PyGObject rather than any gi directory. Checked with tools/test-install-in-containers.sh arch — dasbus comes from pacman, install OK. 424 tests pass.
