* # ai-hist
Local coding-agent session history for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok, Muse Code, OpenCode, and Devin CLI.
`use ai_hist::{CatalogQuery, SessionQuery, SessionStore};
; // the cursor moves only here
Ok(())
}
`
Default features expose `SessionStore` — `open`, `discover`, `sync`, `hydrate`, `watch`, `sessions`, `session`, `session_identities`, `has_session`, `changes_since`, `head_revision` — plus `Source::capabilities()`, the typed evidence structs and one `Error` enum; see `docs/sourcing-sdk.md` in the repository. Optional features: `export` (bounded, resumable NDJSON snapshots keyed like the change feed), `opencode-backup`, `git-hooks`, `fs-events`. The crate keeps no upload state: an uploader reads the change feed. Workspace crates enable `unstable-internal` for connection-level maintenance APIs.
The embedder guide — store options, the sync lifecycle and its locking, the evidence model, accounting semantics, versioning and feature flags — is `docs/sourcing-sdk.md`, and `examples/rust-consumer` is a standalone project that consumes this crate from crates.io. Cargo semver is the contract; the crate's default-feature public API is snapshotted in the repository at `crates/ai-hist/public-api.txt` and diffed in CI.

One provider record that the normalized `session_events` model cannot carry, kept rather than dropped.
Compaction and summary boundaries, provider system rows, non-text content blocks and agent lifecycle events all describe a session without being a message in it. `kind` is the classified vocabulary; `subkind` is the provider-native type verbatim, so a record type that no classifier knows yet still lands as `kind = "unknown"` with its real name intact. `payload_json` carries an allowlisted, bounded projection only — never the bytes of an image or a document.

The provider’s own readable text for this marker, when it wrote one.
Grok records a system preamble and a synthetic turn as text; Claude and Codex record their markers as structure. The column is what keeps the Grok text from being flattened into a JSON payload that no longer reads as prose.

One message: every event sharing a `message_id`, in order.
A `message_id` is the ledger’s record identity, which is not always the provider’s API message: Claude writes one API response as several records with distinct `uuid`s sharing `provider_message_id` and `request_id`, so one API request is several `Message`s here and one entry in `SessionEvidence::requests`. See `MessageIdOrigin`.
Envelope facts (`request_id`, `provider_message_id`, `stop_reason`, `turn_id`, sidechain and meta flags) are Claude’s and Codex’s; OpenCode records `provider` and `stop_reason`; cursor and grok carry the model where their logs name one and `None` elsewhere.
## Fields (Non-exhaustive)§
This struct is marked as non-exhaustive
Non-exhaustive structs could have additional fields added in future. Therefore, non-exhaustive structs cannot be constructed in external crates using the traditional `Struct { .. }` syntax; cannot be matched against without a wildcard `..`; and struct update syntax will not work.
§`message_id: Option<String>`
`None` for an event the provider left unnamed; such an event is a message of its own.
§`role: Role`§`ts_ms: i64`§`parent_id: Option<String>`§`model: Option<String>`§`provider: Option<String>`
The upstream inference provider the harness named. OpenCode.
§`request_id: Option<String>`
The provider’s request id. Claude.
§`provider_message_id: Option<String>`
The provider’s own message id (Claude’s `message.id`).
§`request_span: Option<String>`
Which API request this message belongs to when the provider delimits requests without naming them. Codex.
§`stop_reason: Option<String>`
Why the turn ended, as the harness reported it. Claude, opencode.

§`id: i64`§`source: String`§`session_id: String`§`request_key: String`§`request_key_source: RequestKeySource`§`message_ids: Vec<String>`
Every `session_events.message_id` this request collapsed. More than one means the provider split the request across records — Claude’s per-content-block layout.
§`model: Option<String>`§`provider: Option<String>`
The provider behind the model, when the source records one. OpenCode supplies this directly; it is never inferred from a model string (burn owns that inference).

`None` when the request carried no usage evidence, or when the evidence could not be trusted — see `diagnostics`.

The stable `crate::usage::UsageError::code` when normalization failed.
§`tool_use_ids: Vec<String>`§`has_thinking: bool`§`event_count: i64`

<location>https://agentrelay.com/docs/relayhistory/introduction</location>
<excerpt>citeturn0search0 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: 5 days ago; Relayhistory v0.44.0 Search, resume, and hand off every coding-agent session. ... Agent Relay | `relay` | No — use `ai-hist pack` ... History stays in `~/.local/share/ai-hist/ai-history.db` on your machine.
Relayhistory v0.44.0 Search, resume, and hand off every coding-agent session.
# Relayhistory
Copy Markdown
Search, resume, and hand off every coding-agent session on your machine, across every harness.
Relayhistory indexes the sessions your coding agents already write to disk into one local SQLite database. Search them all at once, jump back into a session with its harness's own resume command, and hand a compact context pack to another agent — or to a teammate's agent — to continue the work.
`ai-hist search "auth rewrite"
# → matches across every Claude Code, Codex and Cursor session on this machine
ai-hist resume "auth rewrite"
# → codex resume 29284179-c09f-44f2-b9ec-16f678dc1832
ai-hist pack "auth rewrite" --tokens 1500
# → a token-budgeted context pack, ready to paste into another agent`
## What it reads
Harness | Source id | Native resume
--- | --- | ---
Claude Code | `claude` | Yes
Codex | `codex` | Yes
Cursor | `cursor` | Yes
Grok | `grok` | Yes
Muse Code | `muse` | Yes
OpenCode | `opencode` | No — use `ai-hist pack`
Devin CLI | `devin` | No — use `ai-hist pack`
Agent Relay | `relay` | No — use `ai-hist pack`
Every source is indexed side by side: prompts, assistant turns, tool calls, file edits, token usage, and the parent/subagent tree, as far as each harness records them. Where a harness records less, the gap is named rather than papered over — see Sessions.
## Three ways in
* CLI — `ai-hist`, for people: search, resume, pack, inspect. See CLI.
* MCP server — `ai-hist-mcp` gives an agent its own memory mid-session and, with the workspace `cloud` connector configured, creates handoffs another agent resumes. See MCP server.
* TypeScript SDK — the `ai-hist` package, the same engine the CLI and MCP server call. See SDK.
All three run one Rust engine through a prebuilt Node-API addon. There is no second implementation to fall back to: if the native engine can't load, the error says why.
## Local by default
History stays in `~/.local/share/ai-hist/ai-history.db` on your machine. Reads never contact a provider, remote sources run only when you install and configure a plugin, and export writes only the slice you select. Team upload is done by the Agent Relay desktop app, not by Relayhistory.
## Next steps
Quickstart Install, index your sessions, and run your first search.Handoffs Pass a live session to another agent over Agent Relay.

# RelayHistory (`ai-hist`)
Search, resume, and hand off every coding-agent session — across every harness on your machine.
Local memory for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok, OpenCode, and Agent Relay. Your agent sessions are indexed into one local SQLite database. Search them all at once, jump back into a session with its harness's native resume command, and hand a compact context pack to another agent — or to a teammate's agent — to continue the work.
ai-hist search "auth rewrite"
# → matches across every codex/claude/cursor session on this machine
ai-hist resume "auth rewrite"
# → prints `codex resume 29284179-c09f-44f2-b9ec-16f678dc1832`
ai-hist pack "auth rewrite" --tokens 1500
# → a token-budgeted context pack, ready to paste into another agent
## Use Cases
* Never search for an old chat session again. One local index across every harness. `ai-hist search "the thing I was working on"` finds it, whichever CLI you used.
* Hand off work between agents without losing context. `ai-hist pack "the feature"` produces a compact context pack; `ai-hist resume "the feature"` prints the native resume command. </excerpt>

<excerpt>citeturn0search1 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: last month; * `xan hist` will now dim bars having a `0` count so you can easily distinguish them from non-empty bars. ... ## 0.49.3
* Better error messages when moonblade expressions cannot be parsed.
* Displaying number of threads actually used when using `xan parallel`.
* `xan view` now automatically right-align columns containing only integers.
* Better moonblade casting errors.
* `xan bins` formatted bound will now be padded for better readability.
## 0.50.0
*Features*
* Adding moonblade function `log2`, `log10` and support for custom base with an optional argument of `log`.
* Adding `\0`, `\x..` and `\u{......}` literals to moonblade strings.
* Adding moonblade function `col?`.
*Fixes*
* Better color support for legacy Windows terminals.
* Fixing `to_timezone` function with UTC timestamps on some platforms where jiff is built "bundled".
* Fixing moonblade commands (e.g. `filter`, `map` etc.) when using `-n/--no-headers`.
## 0.49.3
*Fixes*
* Adding missing `-M/--hide-info` support with `XAN_VIEW_ARGS`.
* Pinning MSRV to `1.81.0` in CI builds to avoid Windows Defender false positives.
## 0.49.2
*Fixes*
* Overhauling & fixing CI builds.
## 0.49.1
*Fixes*
* Fixing compilation with musl.
* Fixing `xan cat rows -n`.
## 0.49.0
*Breaking*
* Dropping mostly useless `-p/--parallel` & `-c/--chunk-size` flags in `xan agg` & `xan groupby`. They were only useful when the inner aggregated expression was costly (i.e. reading files) and you can use `xan map -p` upstream for this instead. See also `xan parallel (agg | groupby)` if you want to work in parallel over multiple files.
*Features*
* Adding `xan input --tabs`.
* Adding `xan input -H/--skip-headers`.
* Adding `xan input -L/--skip-lines`.
* Adding `xan input -R/--skip-rows`.
* Adding `xan input --vcf, --gtf, --gff`.
* Adding `xan search -R/--replace` & `xan search --replacement-column`.
* Adding `xan rename -S/--slugify`.
* Adding moonblade function `sum`.
* Adding support for `.psv`, `.ssv` & `.scsv` file extensions.

<title>CLI — Relayhistory | Agent Relay</title>
<location>https://agentrelay.com/docs/relayhistory/cli</location>
<excerpt>citeturn0search2 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: last week; `ai-hist` is the command-line front end to the Relayhistory engine.Every command takes `--json` for machine-readable output and `--db PATH` (or `AI_HIST_DB`) to point at a different database.
# CLI

Every ai-hist command: search, resume, pack, inspect sessions, sync, and the local/remote/all scopes.
`ai-hist` is the command-line front end to the Relayhistory engine. Every command takes `--json` for machine-readable output and `--db PATH` (or `AI_HIST_DB`) to point at a different database.
## Find and continue work
`ai-hist search "auth rewrite" # full-text search across every harness
ai-hist search "flaky test" --role user --limit 20
ai-hist recent 20 # the last N prompts, newest first
ai-hist resume "auth rewrite" # print the native resume command
ai-hist pack "auth rewrite" --tokens 1500 # compact, token-budgeted context`
`search` matches prompts and session events — assistant text, tool calls, and their results. Narrow it with `--source`, `--project PATH`, `--role all|user|assistant|prompt`, and an inclusive time window with `--since-ms` / `--until-ms`. Results come back newest first; page with the cursor printed in `--json` output via `--after`.
`resume` and `pack` take a query, not an id: they find the best-matching session and act on it.
## Inspect sessions
`ai-hist sessions list # most recent sessions, newest first
ai-hist session SESSION_ID # the prompts of one session
ai-hist events SESSION_ID --limit 200 # its normalized events
ai-hist sessions tree SOURCE SESSION_ID # the parent/subagent tree
ai-hist sessions relationships SOURCE SESSION_ID # which sessions spawned which
ai-hist sessions tools SOURCE SESSION_ID # recorded tool calls
ai-hist sessions edits SOURCE SESSION_ID # recorded file edits
ai-hist sessions markers SOURCE SESSION_ID # non-transcript records (compaction boundaries, lifecycle events…)
ai-hist sessions usage SOURCE SESSION_ID # token usage rollup
ai-hist stats # how much is indexed, by source and project`
`SOURCE` is the session's harness — `claude`, `codex`, `cursor`, `grok`, `muse`, `opencode`, `devin`, or `relay`. Commands under `sessions` require it alongside the id, because session ids collide across providers; `sessions list` prints both. `session` and `events` take the id alone and accept `--source` only to disambiguate an id two harnesses share.
See Sessions for what each of these returns.
## Index
`ai-hist # first run: discover and index recent sessions
ai-hist sessions discover --limit 100 # shallow: refresh catalog metadata only
ai-hist sessions hydrate SOURCE SESSION_ID # fully index one session
ai-hist sync # full ingestion of every local source`
These do different amounts of work:
* `sessions list` reads the catalog only. It never touches provider files.
* `sessions discover` does bounded, shallow reads to refresh catalog metadata.
* `sessions hydrate` indexes one session as fully as its provider allows.
* `sync` is full ingestion — prompts, events, tool calls, edits, usage, relationships.
Commands that read local history build the index on first use. Pass `--no-bootstrap` to answer from the store exactly as it stands.
## Scopes: local, remote, all
Commands that select a set of sessions take exactly one location scope:
Flag | Selects
--- | ---
`--local` | Sessions found on this machine. The default.
`--remote` | Sessions found through a remote source, such as claude.ai/code or Codex cloud.
`--all` | Both, deduplicated — a session seen in both places appears o…[truncated]</excerpt>

Document separate rollup contributions for slash-command turns.
ai-hist 0.49.0 groups the marker by parentUuid chaining, not request identity. A valid marker can therefore reference records from distinct requests. Burn resolves each UID independently, and the activity and token rollups still process each TurnRecord separately. Skill changes category attribution; it does not collapse turns into one rollup entry.
Suggested fix
- /// events keep their own token attribution, while `Skill` collapses the
- /// group into a single activity so per-category rollups don't count one
- /// slash command three times. See
+ /// events keep their own token attribution, while `Skill` classifies each
+ /// corresponding turn as a skill activity and per-category rollups count

Update the documentation near `skill_messages` to clarify that `Skill`
classifies each corresponding `TurnRecord` as a skill activity and rollups count
those turns separately; remove the claim that it collapses the group into one

Summary
Five docs-only corrections where a comment contradicted the implementation. No behavior changes.
crates/relayburn-sdk/src/reader/inference.rs— the request-id docs referenced the removedInferenceFallbackenum and a non-existentrow-uuidwire label, and claimed Codex/opencodeturn_idequalsrequest_id. The code usesInferenceKeySource, serializesrow-synthetic, always setsturn_idfrommessage_id, and synthesizes Codex request ids as{message_id}:request:{n}.crates/relayburn-sdk/src/reader/types.rs—ActivityCategory::Skillwas documented as aparentUuidstructural triad detected byclassifier::detect_slash_triads, which does not exist. Detection now comes from relayhistoryslash_commandmarkers viaskill_messages.crates/relayburn-sdk/src/ledger/db.rs—Connections::openwas documented as requiring existing parent directories, but it callscreate_dir_allfor each path's parent.crates/relayburn-sdk/src/ingest/pending_stamps.rs—resolve_pending_stamps_for_session_inwas documented as applying every matching manifest. The loop breaks after the first successful append, so at most one is applied per call.crates/relayburn-cli/src/cli.rs— theCommandenum was documented as stubs that print "not yet implemented" and exit 1.
