The clipping functionality s*cks a lot (well, s*cks a bit)

Everything in the title, but to be more specific

• the clipping range is weird, sometimes I cannot move the clipping plane to some locations
• choosing the clipping axes is not super intuitive
• there should be a "clip orthogonal to viewing axis" by default, more natural I think
