What
Codify the editorial rule the steward has set, so all future copy follows it without relitigating:
THE RULE: the site may only claim what its reader can verify at the reader's own rung.
- A site visitor can: install the agent, read the receipts, see the tests run, press the stop, follow a DOI. → Claims of this kind are site-legal.
- A site visitor cannot: check a derivation, audit a statistical registration, referee a physics claim. → Claims of this kind (law-like claims, research results, theory language) stay OFF the site — they live where the verification apparatus lives: Zenodo (dated, archived, citable) and GitHub (runnable, diffable).
- The one permitted bridge is posture, not content: the site may say we make dated falsifiable predictions, they are archived at these DOIs, a script grades them without our vote, and losses are published — because a reader can verify the posture by following the links. It may not restate the predictions' content.
- Corollary for /safety and /proof: claims about our system (measured, test-linked) are site-legal; claims about nature are not. Reword accordingly wherever the line is close.
Why (recorded so the reasoning survives contributor turnover)
- Anti-laundering. A registered bet restated in marketing format becomes a claim stripped of its kill condition — inflated by the medium alone. The project's entire credibility architecture depends on claims carrying their failure modes; the site format cannot carry them.
- Mission decoupling. The humanitarian commitments (e.g. the survival card) must not be hostage to the research program's fate. If a major research bet fails — and the bets are designed so they can — the card, the receipts, and the stop button lose nothing. Separate rungs, separate fates.
- Credibility economics. Grand claims on a product site read as self-promotion and cost adoption among exactly the audiences the mission needs. Understatement plus checkable links is the register that survives hostile readers.
- The charge is delivery, not aggrandizement. The message must be hearable; volume that centers the messenger drowns it.
Acceptance
- This rule referenced from CONTRIBUTING or the README copy-guidelines section.
- Existing pages audited once against it (the /proof "measured vs model" tags already embody it; extend that spirit).
