Board, lineage, related-post, and knowledge-graph excerpts regex-normalized every complete source body to return 420 characters. A synthetic k6 run on the formal stack showed PostgreSQL CPU-bound on those reads. source_post_excerpt_text normalizes the 16,384-character search prefix and falls back to the full body when that prefix is too short, so the returned excerpt is unchanged (verified on every local row and by a live PostgreSQL regression that fails when either boundary path is removed). The gap baseline records this loop's exact-head Voice acceptance, Board load observation, and the remaining measured costs.

Board reads were slow because every 420-character post excerpt ran three regular expressions over the complete source body. In a synthetic authenticated k6 run on the formal Compose stack (4 VUs, 20 s), PostgreSQL sat near 380% CPU while every other service stayed under 13%, and the sampled active queries were Board reads.
source_post_excerpt_text(body, max_chars)normalizes only the existing 16,384-character search prefix, after dropping an unterminated trailing tag. If that prefix yields fewer thanmax_charscharacters, it normalizes the whole body. The excerpt text is unchanged: it matched full normalization on all 43,189 local rows. Board, lineage, related-post, and knowledge-graph excerpts use the function, while search-hit excerpts still locate the term in the full body. ADR 0053 records the amendment, and migration 0252 is replay-safe and has a rollback.Validation
