What

Batches local branch deletions into a single git branch -D process call instead of invoking git branch -D inside a ForEach-Object pipeline loop for each branch in script.ps1.

Why

In PowerShell, running a native binary like git inside a loop incurs significant process invocation overhead for every item. Passing an array of branch names to git branch -D allows Git to process all branches in a single process execution.

Impact

Eliminates N+1 process creation overhead during post-merge branch cleanup.

Measurement

Benchmarked deletion of 20 test branches using /tmp/pwsh/pwsh:

  • Loop method (ForEach-Object calling git branch -D per branch): 627 ms
  • Batched method (git branch -D $branchesToDelete): 111 ms
  • Improvement: ~82% reduction in branch cleanup time (~5.6x speedup).
