update dependencies #48

It's been over 18 months since the previous (1.1.1-stable) release, and most of the project's software dependencies have fallen out of date:

• Gradle: using 8.3 (latest is 9.8.0)

• com.android.application: using version 7.4.1 (latest is 9.4.1)

• com.android.library: using version 7.4.1 (latest is 9.4.1)

• net.java.dev.jna:jna: using 5.16.0 (latest is 5.19.1)

• androidx.appcompat:appcompat: using 1.6.1 (latest is 1.8.0)

• com.google.android.material:material: using 1.8.0 (latest is 1.14.0)

• androidx.constraintlayout:constraintlayout: using 2.1.4 (latest is 2.2.2)

• androidx.test.ext:junit: using 1.1.5 (latest is 1.3.0)

• androidx.test.espresso:espresso-core: using 3.5.1 (latest is 3.7.0)

• com.github.oshi:oshi-core: using 6.7.0 (latest is 7.7.0)

• org.apache.logging.log4j:log4j-slf4j2-impl: using 2.24.3 (latest is 2.26.1)

• com.github.stephengold:jolt-jni-*: using 0.9.7 (latest is 6.1.1)

• actions/checkout: using 3 (latest is 7)

• actions/setup-java: using 3 (latest is 6)

• actions/upload-artifact: using 4 (latest is 7)

• actions/download-artifact: using 4 (latest is 8)

• Temurin JDK: using 17 and 19 (latest is 27)

Most of these should be of little consequence. However, Gradle 8.3 doesn't support builds with Java 21 or higher, which seems like a serious limitation.

Prior to the next release, please update these dependencies as far as practical.
