fix(n+1): select_related covers a reverse OneToOne — py-1.13.1, v0.19.3 - #134
Conversation
The reverse side of a OneToOneField (user.profile) was typed as a reverse
manager, the same kind as comment_set, so only prefetch_related counted
as covering it. A loop that already had select_related("profile") was
still reported, and the suggested fix pointed at prefetch_related.
It now has its own reverse_o2o kind in both detectors (CLI and DOL007):
covered by either clause, fixed with select_related. Its default accessor
is <model>, not <model>_set, so an O2O without related_name no longer
falls through to "unknown attribute, assume scalar" and a real N+1 through
it is reported. A forward FK loaded via prefetch_related is no longer
flagged either — Django batches it, there is no per-row query.
Reported from a downstream static-check suite: two false positives on
loops that used select_related.

Do not treat argument-free select_related() as reverse OneToOne coverage. Django follows forward non-null relations by default, but a reverse OneToOne accessor must be named. Both detectors now suppress a real finding for User.objects.select_related() followed by u.profile.bio. (docs.djangoproject.com)
