fix(web): let people install declarenta.com and use it offline - #411
Conversation
The manifest sat next to index.html, so Vite hashed it into /assets/ and its relative start_url, scope and icons resolved under /assets/. The icons 404'd and the page was outside the manifest scope, so Chrome refused to install the app. The service worker cached files only after it took control, so the first visit cached nothing and an offline reload showed "Offline". The manifest now lives in public/ and is served at /manifest.json with the 192 and 512 PNG icons. The build writes the app shell into sw.js, which precaches it on install. It only fetches files from the site itself.
📝 Walkthrough
Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The app currently links the manifest, but its new test could miss a later removal of that link. This is a bounded coverage gap, not a demonstrated obstacle to merging. Pre-merge checks |

The raw-text regex can match the same markup inside an HTML comment. If the active link is removed while the comment remains, the test still passes. Parse
INDEX_HTMLand query the manifest link in the document head.Suggested fix
- const href = /<link rel="manifest" href="([^"]+)"/.exec(INDEX_HTML)?.[1]; + const document = new DOMParser().parseFromString(INDEX_HTML, "text/html"); + const href = document.head.querySelector('link[rel="manifest"]')?.getAttribute("href");🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

declarenta.com could not be installed as an app, and it did not work offline.
The manifest sat next to
index.html, so Vite treated it as an asset and hashed it into/assets/manifest-BcA54jis.json. Its paths are relative, so they resolved under/assets/. The start URL and scope became/assets/, which puts the page itself outside the app's scope, and both icons pointed at/assets/favicon.svg, which returns 404. Chrome reportedno-acceptable-iconand refused to install. The service worker had a second problem. It cached files only after it took control of the page, which happens after the first load, so a first visit cached nothing and an offline reload got the worker's "Offline" 503 page.The fix:
manifest.jsonmoves tosrc/web/public/and the page links/manifest.json. Vite copies it as is, so./and the icons now resolve against the site root. The icons are the existingicon-192.pngandicon-512.png. The SVG favicon is gone from the list, along with its maskable claim, because the icon has rounded transparent corners and would be cropped as a maskable icon.vite.config.tswrites the list of built files intosw.jsafter the build. The worker caches that list on install, under one cache per deploy, and deletes older caches on activate. Fetching stays network-first, so users still get each new deploy. The precache only requests files from the site itself and adds no other network call.I checked it in headless Chromium on the Mac mini, with a persistent profile, serving each build and then stopping the server for the offline step.
