Current rules: CONTRIBUTING.
The contribution-policy transition is PRE-CUTOVER / NOT ACTIVE; the retained issue-first checks still apply.

Problem and result

  • Run the existing Pi/OpenCode source suites and Go-backed HTTP fixtures in one independent, initially non-required macos-adapter-tests lane on macos-15, requiring actual Darwin ARM64, repository Go 1.26.10 and Node 24.
  • Reuse the existing serial Pi test script with command-local --test-reporter=tap (the approved CI-only exception to literal npm test), locked npm ci --ignore-scripts --legacy-peer-deps, the existing prebuilt Pi test-server route and the same three-file OpenCode selection with command-local TAP reporting. Preserve fixtures, assertions, deadlines and test-owned homes/stores/processes.
  • Preserve failures and report completed TAP execution, actual step outcomes, counts and exact skip identities. Reconcile counters with all nested result records; mandatory prerequisites and unexpected skips mean incomplete coverage.
  • Keep all pre-existing CI bytes unchanged. The new lane inherits PR/merge-group/main events and ordinary concurrency; it does not change six App15368 required contexts, queue, security/version/integrity guards, Race cadence or existing budgets.
File Change

Closes #2160

Related umbrella: #2150, which remains open for remaining per-OS work and native observation/disposition. This PR delivers only the accepted Mac implementation slice. Windows #2155 / PR #2156 / #2159 is separate; no Windows coverage or whole-#2150 completion is claimed.

Verification

Actual local checks on Node 24.14.0 / Windows, not native Darwin execution:

  • node --test .github/scripts/ci-technical-contracts.test.mjs .github/scripts/ci-unit-node.test.mjs — 33/33 PASS, including final parent spot-check.
  • node --test .github/scripts/issue-*.test.mjs — 573/573 PASS.
  • node --test .github/scripts/issue-refresh-router-workflow.test.mjs — 4/4 PASS after final hash alignment.
  • Initial four new tests observed RED on absent lane, then GREEN.
  • Independent CI-risk verification identified two false-completeness bugs: balanced inflated counters and a missing nested result with unchanged counters. Both were reproduced RED, corrected and independently rechecked 2/2 PASS; focused evidence regressions 3/3 PASS, router 4/4 PASS. All in-scope independent verdicts then PASS.
  • Final read-only base-byte comparison: removing only the added lane reproduces fixed-base ci.yml exactly after LF normalization. bash -n 5/5 new multiline stages PASS; git diff --check PASS.
  • Strict LF-normalized ci.yml SHA-256: bfa03d6a0695ccf506762e53aeb7312f7e3b0a448c88860124883f9ce28e6d48.
  • Original implementation RDD: high risk, four provider-admitted lenses approved, exact acknowledgement completed/authority burned for review-c7ab489a2be99197, target sha256:62b5e5ef91cde3a7d5c7cac1722e19860308292fff6728af8e49826344e11251. One informational, non-blocking resilience advisory R4-001 at ci.yml:317; no correction opened.
  • Unavailable: actionlint; no installation attempted.
  • Not run locally: full Go/adapter suites. The first native observation failed Pi; the second passed both suites but failed the summary (details below). The third normal PR run at 392f09ee passed the native adapter job and both suites, as recorded in the final observation below; that result comes from actual execution, not historical TAP replay or foundation results.

Risk (if applicable)

Risk: item 5 — CI/environment and false coverage claims. Accepted design, non-goals and independent-review evidence.

Provisional containment is 15 minutes outer / 2 minutes fixture build / 5 minutes Pi / 5 minutes OpenCode, not measured native timing guarantees. Existing fixture deadlines remain unchanged; exhaustion preserves failure. No continue-on-error, blanket skip, timeout inflation, global installation or new required context.

The installed Pi host journey remains the sole accepted outer-suite opt-in exclusion. Child failures/skips intentionally asserted by package-boundary tests are not new positive native workflows. No installed-host, selected Core/Pi artifact (#2055), distributed-byte (#2122), Darwin amd64 or release-eligibility qualification is claimed. No #1903 / PR #1906 fixture-contract/PATH work is duplicated or integrated.

After authorized delivery, observe one normally occurring PR, merge-group and main execution of the new lane, recording candidate/image/tool identities, exits/timings and executed/skipped scope; then explicitly choose promotion, focused fix or defer under the accepted #2020 contract and retained-policy correction. No dispatch/rerun to manufacture evidence, automatic promotion, merge or settings change is authorized.

Rollback is an ordinary reviewed revert of this isolated lane/tests/docs/provenance unit, preserving the existing foundation and required jobs.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • CI
    • Added a separate, initially non-required macOS ARM64 lane for Pi and OpenCode adapter tests. The lane checks test results and coverage evidence, and fails if evidence is missing, malformed, unsuccessful, or includes unexpected skips.
  • Tests
    • Added checks for the macOS test workflow, TAP reporting, and adapter test summaries, including incomplete or inconsistent results.
  • Documentation
    • Documented the lane’s prerequisites, accepted skip, provisional time limits, and criteria for deciding whether to promote or defer it.

First native PR observation and reviewed correction

CI run 40456433724, attempt 1, PR head 493992f9774491bb45d4ffbeb5e857822b3f4e8b, actual synthetic checkout 9b59e22cffa1d6ddeca2f73f90ff5a83329849d5:

  • Native Darwin ARM64/macOS 15.7.9, image 20260907.0337.1, Go 1.26.10, Node 24.20.0, npm 11.19.0; mandatory setup/dependency/fixture-build steps passed.
  • Pi executed 639 tests: 615 pass / 23 fail / 1 skip, 106.57s. OpenCode was skipped, not covered. The native lane and completeness summary failed; budgets were not exhausted. All six required contexts and the existing native Go foundation passed.
  • Introduced NODE_OPTIONS=--test-reporter=tap leaked into child fixtures that already specify the reporter, causing Node ERR_INVALID_ARG_VALUE with duplicate ['tap', 'tap']. This was a CI wiring defect, not evidence of an adapter product defect.

Human accepted a command-local reporter exception. Corrective commit 6bf006474950241d451af6d1f7511582bf242c46 adds 58A/17D = 75 changed lines against 493992f9, bringing the full PR at that point to 395 changed lines. Pi now executes the exact existing package-script selection/serialization plus CLI-only TAP; OpenCode retains the same three files. No fixture, assertion, dependency, parser or timeout changes.

Both actual YAML shell blocks were exercised using isolated tiny parent/child Node fixtures, not full adapter suites. The original reporter collisions were reproduced RED, then corrected; positive execution and deliberate child failures preserve exits, stdout/stderr and raw TAP. The Pi selection is pinned against its existing package script.

Correction verification: 37/37 PASS (33 technical/Node + 4 router), policy 573/573 PASS; independent verification PASS with no blockers, unchanged existing CI, Bash syntax 5/5 PASS. Native three-lens RDD for exact 493992f9..6bf00647 approved with no correction/advisory; exact acknowledgement consumed authority for review-e07a7ec755078d7c, target sha256:faea98596a652405808f891eac2b43feda6c6376e03ac6e0a0e6dc220778b3a8.

Original failures remain visible. New automatically triggered PR CI belongs to the corrected candidate and is not yet a passing native result. No rerun, dispatch, merge, required-check promotion or settings change accompanies this correction.

Second native observation and summary-only correction

CI run 40459952974, attempt 1, head 6bf006474950241d451af6d1f7511582bf242c46, actual checkout bdb99664943df84de2e39b11ebfe5ac34dc9d80e:

  • Native Pi step SUCCESS: 639 tests, 638 pass / 0 fail / 1 installed-host opt-in skip, 119.93s.
  • Native OpenCode step SUCCESS: 273 pass / 0 fail / 0 skip, 7.98s.
  • The lane still FAILED because the summary rejected a valid repeated parameterized test name. The existing two-case loop in plugin/opencode/engram.v2.test.mjs:284–285 deliberately emits the same name for two different content vectors. This was a summary-parser defect, not a failing adapter assertion. Other required checks passed.

Human authorized the bounded summary-only correction. Commit 392f09ee6e27f89deb881d740cb9915a319ff938 changes 11A/6D = 17 lines against 6bf00647, four allowed paths; accumulated PR 400 changed lines. It removes only global test-name uniqueness. Sequential ordinal/duplicate-number, plan, nested-record/count, required-case, skip and actual-outcome guards remain intact. No suite, fixture, assertion, command or budget edits.

Verification:

  • Repeated-name regression observed RED before the fix; final 37/37 focused technical/Node/router checks and 573/573 policy checks PASS.
  • Historical hosted TAP replay: exact previous checker exit 1/incomplete, corrected checker exit 0/complete-with-listed-exclusions, exact Pi/OpenCode counts/skip preserved, empty stderr, matching JSON summary and unchanged raw TAP. This is checker evidence using historical input, not a new native candidate execution.
  • Independent verification: 37/37 PASS, 14 negative probes rejected (duplicate/missing ordinals, missing nested results, bad counts/plan/counters, missing/skipped required cases, wrong skip reason, failures/truncation/outcomes); Bash syntax 5/5 PASS. No blockers.
  • Native RDD for exact 6bf00647..392f09ee: three lenses approved, no findings; exact acknowledgement consumed authority for review-ba4d38e442076cc6, target sha256:312eccf98d6aef60fde196f58b12cd5858a8a172c3d50286b633f373207cd8bb.
  • New automatically triggered native CI belongs to 392f09ee and remains pending, not forced green. No reruns/dispatch/settings changes.

CodeRabbit observation assessed separately

Comment 4385692265 flags bare bash resolution in the isolated reporter regression on Windows: PATH may select WSL rather than Git Bash. Current host inspection finds Git Bash first and the WSL launcher second, so local probes ran successfully, but the portability concern is valid. It is unrelated to the native Mac summary failure and is not fixed or marked resolved by this parser-only correction. Explicit Git Bash selection is separate optional test-harness follow-up; no unrelated Windows job/fixture scope is included.

Verified normal PR execution — 392f09e

CI run 40462699327, attempt 1, event pull_request, head 392f09ee6e27f89deb881d740cb9915a319ff938, actual synthetic checkout c6454f53953bdbaa3fc59921d0aea33a207cc26f: SUCCESS. Earlier pending statements above describe their publication-time state; this is the current observed outcome.

Native macOS ARM64 Adapter Tests job 122050775591 completed SUCCESS, 06:42:32–06:45:17 UTC on 2026-10-27 (2m45s), on Darwin ARM64 / macOS 15.7.9, image 20260907.0337.1, Go 1.26.10, Node 24.20.0. Prerequisite, dependency, fixture-build, both adapter and summary steps succeeded within the unchanged ceilings.

Suite Tests Pass Fail Skip Duration
Pi 639 638 0 1 118819.355333ms
OpenCode 273 273 0 0 7915.62375ms

The sole Pi skip is exactly actual Pi hosts retain attribution through compaction, resume and refusal / opt-in: set ENGRAM_PI_LIFECYCLE_CLI to the installed Pi CLI entry point. Both suites report zero cancelled/todo cases. The actual summary reports complete-with-listed-exclusions with both outcomes success and complete: true.

All six retained required contexts were SUCCESS at the verified head. The existing native Go foundation, Race, vulnerability/workflow validation, Linux plugin and other applicable technical checks passed. Performance Ratchet is intentionally skipped for a PR; superseded/metadata-only skipped notices are not runtime passes.

This is real native Mac source/fixture PR evidence for this exact candidate. One normally occurring merge-group and main observation and an explicit promotion/focused-fix/defer disposition still remain under #2150. No required-check promotion, merge, settings change, Windows adapter, Darwin amd64, installed-host, selected/distributed-artifact or release-eligibility claim follows from this success. The separately assessed CodeRabbit Windows shell-selection concern remains unresolved; its check success is not a claim that the comment was fixed.

Walkthrough

The CI workflow adds an initially non-required macOS ARM64 job that runs the Pi and OpenCode adapter suites. It validates prerequisites and TAP evidence, and reports complete coverage only when both suites meet the defined checks. Contributor documentation describes the lane’s scope and completion criteria.

Explanation

Directly linked issue #2160 is the only active coding target. Its coding requirements are met at head 392f09e.

Implementation at head (.github/workflows/ci.yml, job macos-adapter-tests):

  • Runs on macos-15 with timeout-minutes 15 (outer ceiling).
  • Verifies Darwin arm64, go1.26.10, Node 24, and the adapter fixture inputs.
  • Isolates HOME, TMPDIR, store, and Go caches in a test-owned root.
  • Installs the locked Pi dependency with npm ci --ignore-scripts --legacy-peer-deps.
  • Builds the existing Pi fixture with a 2-minute ceiling.
  • Runs Pi with a 5-minute ceiling using command-local --test-reporter=tap. The NODE_OPTIONS reporter leak from the first native run is removed.
  • Runs the three OpenCode files with a 5-minute ceiling and command-local TAP.
  • Summarizes TAP evidence. The visible checks reject invalid top-level sequences, invalid plans, nested failed records, and unsuccessful step outcomes. Coverage is reported complete only when both suites succeed.

[#2160] Commit 392f09e changes only the summary parser. It removes global test-name uniqueness so that the two-case parameterized name in plugin/opencode/engram.v2.test.mjs is accepted. The visible ordinal, plan, nested-record, and required-name checks remain. The PR reports historical TAP replay evidence and 14 rejected negative probes for this change.

Limits of this assessment: the incremental diff and the whole-PR ci.yml diff could not be read because changed blobs are absent from the checkout. The ci.yml read was truncated before the counter reconciliation and skip-classification tail of the summarizer. This assessment relies on the visible code and on the PR's reported verification for that tail.

Native execution of 392f09e is pending. The issue assigns native observation and disposition to umbrella #2150 and states that merging wiring does not qualify coverage. Those items are follow-through, not coding requirements for this PR.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

All changed areas connect to #2160:

  • .github/workflows/ci.yml: the new independent macos-adapter-tests lane and its inline TAP evidence summarizer. The visible job definitions for existing jobs are unchanged according to the PR's base-byte comparison.
  • .github/scripts/ci-technical-contracts.test.mjs: structural and negative regressions for the new lane, reporter isolation, and summary completeness rules.
  • .github/scripts/issue-refresh-router-workflow.test.mjs: provenance comment and the updated whole-file hash for ci.yml. This follows directly from the lane change.
  • CONTRIBUTING.md and docs/ci-macos.md: commands, prerequisites, evidence boundaries, and rollout limits for the new lane.

The change in 392f09e affects only the summary parser. It does not change suites, fixtures, assertions, or budgets.

No Windows job, dependency upgrade, fixture or production code, required-context change, or #1906 integration appears in the reported changes. The PR states that these are excluded.

The CodeRabbit note about bare bash on Windows concerns a regression test inside an in-scope file. The PR states that it is not fixed here. This is a known open portability note, not an unrelated change.

Limit: the ci.yml diff could not be read in this review, so the scope conclusion relies on the PR's file list and the visible ci.yml content.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Select Git Bash for Windows tests.

On Windows, bash can resolve to the WSL launcher instead of Git Bash. WSL cannot use the C:/... value assigned to RUNNER_TEMP as a Linux path, so tee fails and both reporter tests fail. (gitforwindows.org)

Resolve Git Bash explicitly on Windows, or adapt the paths for the selected shell.
