docs(profiles): add roadmap for session routing and explicit editing - #2715
Refs #1064 (nonclosing: #1064 closes on Track A acceptance, not on this document).
PR Type
Documentation only — type:docs
Summary
Adds docs/roadmaps/profiles.md, the maintainer-facing plan for Profiles: what a session uses, what you are editing, where it is saved and who else it affects.
Records the selected v1-additive persistence direction and which existing work resumes or stays paused. Sequencing and readiness will live in a roadmap index issue; its link is added once that issue exists.
Changes
File
Change
docs/roadmaps/profiles.md
New roadmap: baseline, interaction contract, persistence direction, Track A and Track B units, reuse of existing issues, acceptance and costs
Test Plan
Structural readback of the document and git diff --check passed.
Privacy scan: no personal paths, hostnames or credentials in the document.
Native review assessment: low risk, non-executable only; no lenses required.
No meaningful behavior RED exists for a passive document. Shellcheck and changed-skill execution are inapplicable.
Conventional documentation commit, no Co-Authored-By trailers.
No executable files, runtime behavior, public options, permissions or dependencies change.
Scope
Planning only. Nothing here implements A2, A3 or Track B; those stay paused until their contracts are specified. #2709 and #2710 follow the normal issue flow.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Documentation
Added a Profiles roadmap outlining the current baseline, product direction, interaction expectations, planned work, and acceptance criteria.
Clarified how drafts, applied snapshots, and saved definitions differ, including expectations for shared writes, cancellation, failures, and session changes.
Documented open questions and limitations for future persistence, compatibility, and concurrent editing work.
Established the roadmap index as the reference for sequencing and revisions.
Track A finishes #1064: reviewer parity, continuity of the inherited
profile across a resume and an honest clear. Track B evolves Profiles
toward session-first editing and does not block closing #1064.

Walkthrough
The Profiles roadmap documents the current baseline, editor interaction contracts, and a proposed additive persistence model. It defines separate work tracks for continuity and session-first editing, with dependencies, acceptance evidence, and verification requirements.

Summary
Baseline and evidence docs/roadmaps/profiles.md
Records current session binding and persistence work, inherited-freeze continuity gaps, reviewer findings, and evidence limitations.
Defines editor contexts and distinguishes drafts, applied session snapshots, and saved definitions. Specifies write destinations, draft handling, session checks, and resolution limits.
Persistence proposal docs/roadmaps/profiles.md
Proposes additive records for inherited baselines and overrides. Documents legacy handling, required examples, partial outcomes, and stale-definition conflicts.
Work tracks and acceptance evidence docs/roadmaps/profiles.md
Defines Track A and Track B work units, dependencies, and status. Adds acceptance evidence and verification requirements.
Gentleman-Programming/gentle-shell#2588 — The roadmap cites this unified screen as baseline behavior and records matching action and write-destination distinctions.

A v1 reader ignores the base on a clear and resolves through its fallback, so an older program can resume on changed defaults. A2 now owns defining and verifying that behavior.

captured no-profile baseline, either through a known-field encoding or
documented fallback to current defaults. Do not imply optional fields on a v1
`clear` record preserve that baseline for older readers.

Closing this one. The Profiles roadmap is going to live in a roadmap index issue instead of a doc in the repo, which is how the roadmap practice we follow works.
The correction from the review, that a v1 reader ignores the base on a clear and can resume on the current defaults, moved into the A2 readiness in that index. The persistence and interaction contract goes into the A2 issue once its plan is written.
