The nightly loom job failed on parquet::late_tests::runtime_filter_keys_filter_while_decoding. loom panicked with "cannot access Loom execution state from outside a Loom model".

The krishiv-io step filtered on the substring runtime_filter, so it also picked up this ordinary test. Under --cfg loom, RuntimeFilter uses loom's atomics, and the test builds one outside loom::model. The runtime-filter loom model itself passes, so this is not a synchronisation bug in the engine.

Changes:

  • Every loom step in nightly.yml now filters on loom_model::, so it selects only model tests.
  • The krishiv-memory and krishiv-exec model modules are renamed from loom_tests to loom_model (src/loom_model.rs and join::grace::loom_model), so all three crates follow the krishiv-io convention. Doc comments and crate maps that name the run command are updated.
  • New xtask policy test loom_steps_select_only_loom_models checks three things:
    • every loom step is --lib ... loom_model::;
    • every crate that builds a loom::model has a step;
    • every model lives in a loom_model module.
It fails on the previous workflow, and a second test covers the check itself.

Verification (RUSTFLAGS="--cfg loom", release, as in the nightly job):

crate models run non-model tests selected exit
krishiv-memory 17 0 0
krishiv-exec 10 0 0
krishiv-io 1 0 0

cargo xtask precheck passes and typos is clean.

The krishiv-io loom step filtered on the substring `runtime_filter`, which
also selected the ordinary test
`parquet::late_tests::runtime_filter_keys_filter_while_decoding`. Under
`--cfg loom` that test builds a `RuntimeFilter`, whose atomics are loom's,
outside `loom::model`, and loom panics ("cannot access Loom execution state
from outside a Loom model"). The model itself passes; nothing in the engine
is unsynchronised.

Every loom step now filters on `loom_model::`, and the krishiv-memory and
krishiv-exec model modules are renamed from `loom_tests` to `loom_model` so
one convention covers all three crates. A policy test checks that each
loom step selects only `loom_model`, that every crate building a
`loom::model` has a step, and that models live in a `loom_model` module.

Walkthrough

The pull request renames executor and memory Loom test modules to loom_model, updates Loom test commands to select those modules, and adds policy tests for module naming and nightly command filters.

Changes: Loom test selection

Layer / File(s) Summary
Model module names and command examples
crates/krishiv-exec/src/join/grace.rs, crates/krishiv-exec/src/lib.rs, crates/krishiv-memory/src/lib.rs, crates/krishiv-exec/CLAUDE.md, crates/krishiv-exec/src/loom_model.rs, crates/krishiv-exec/src/sync.rs, crates/krishiv-memory/CLAUDE.md, crates/krishiv-memory/src/loom_model.rs, crates/krishiv-memory/src/sync.rs, crates/krishiv-io/src/runtime_filter/tests.rs
The executor and memory Loom modules are declared as loom_model. Their documented commands, along with the I/O test command, use the loom_model:: filter.
Nightly Loom test commands
.github/workflows/nightly.yml
The memory, executor, and I/O test commands select loom_model:: tests. Loom coverage comments point to loom_model.rs and explain the module filter.
Loom policy checks
xtask/tests/policy.rs
New tests discover crates containing loom::model, check the model module naming, and validate the nightly job’s test command filters.

Possibly related PRs

  • KrishivAI/krishiv-engine#148: Adds a Loom model in the memory crate that this pull request renames and includes in the model-module and test-filter contract.
Merge Risk: High · up to 7ef59

The nightly workflow will not load, so none of the nightly jobs (Loom, coverage, mutation, fuzz) can run until the three Loom commands are quoted. The xtask policy check also needs a matching update so it still recognizes the quoted commands.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to 7ef59

The change does not expand production access or deployment privileges. However, malformed nightly configuration prevents unrelated fuzzing and memory-safety checks from running, weakening scheduled regression detection.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · reliability · inferred: The new unquoted Loom commands invalidate the shared nightly workflow, preventing its scheduled fuzzing and ASan checks as well as Loom execution. The added text-based policy assertions accept and require the malformed command representation, leaving this security-validation failure outside their protection.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The parsing failure affects the shared scheduled and manually dispatched nightly workflow, not just the Loom job. Its affected validation includes reusable fuzzing, kernel and Arrow stream ASan tests, and differential kernel fuzzing. This weakens defect detection without demonstrating a production vulnerability.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The changed Loom job retains repository-read permissions, a GitHub-hosted runner, pinned checkout, disabled credential persistence, and runner egress auditing. The changed commands remain literal test invocations; no new attacker-input interpolation or deployment authority is introduced in this job.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Dedicated security checks and manually gated publishing are defined independently of nightly Loom. This limits the supported consequence to lost nightly validation rather than a demonstrated authorization or publishing bypass; external required-check and environment settings were not available.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title names the main change: the nightly loom job now selects only the loom_model modules. It matches the raw summary, which shows the workflow filter changes to loom_model:: across crates, plus the module renames and the new xtask policy test. The title is concise and specific, and it uses the conventional ci(loom) scope.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the template's main parts. It gives a clear summary of the failure and the fix, and it lists the changes, including the module renames and the new xtask policy test. It reports verification output in a table with test counts and exit codes, which covers the 'Tests run' section in substance, though not as raw pasted command output. The Summary section does not link a task ID (P2-Txxx), spec chapter, or ADRs, and the Checklist is not ticked or addressed. The Performance review and Rust API Guidelines sections are not addressed. The commit sign-off and SPDX header checks are not mentioned. The description is mostly complete on the core content but needs these template items filled in.

Resolution

Consider adding the task ID (P2-Txxx), spec chapter, and any relevant ADRs under 'Task / spec / ADRs'. Paste the raw command output lines in the 'Tests run' block instead of only the summary table. Confirm the Checklist items (DCO sign-off, SPDX headers, Conventional Commits, and the others) and mark or note the ones that do not apply, such as the Rust API Guidelines and Performance review sections, which this change does not touch.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 83.33% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 6 functions across 9 files. (3 skipped: 3 unsupported.)

Unquoted trailing '::' is not a valid YAML plain scalar and broke
parsing of the loom job. Quote each loom run command and strip the
quotes in the policy check before matching.
