Summary

item create --image a --image b --image c currently publishes listings with a single picture: all files are uploaded to /api/v3/upload/{uuid}/pictures (204 each), but the multipart POST /api/v3/items only has its first image part attached — extra parts are silently ignored. item edit --image has the same problem, plus it can fail with "cannot tell which leaf category … sits in" because the item detail returns a localized taxonomy path that doesn't resolve against the create tree.

Root cause

Wallapop migrated publishing to a server-driven steps wizard (POST /api/v3/steps, LLM-assisted). In the current Angular upload app the gallery is assembled in two phases (upload service, processQueue):

  1. POST /api/v3/items carries the payload plus only the first image.
  2. The remaining pictures go to POST /api/v3/items/{id}/picture2 — multipart with a plain order field (1-based gallery position) and the image under image.

The old multipart flow that the CLI recorded (2026-09-15) still works for creation, but it now only ever takes the first picture.

Fix

  • CreateItem/EditItem send only the leading image in the write call, then upload the rest to picture2 in gallery order (new uploadItemPicture).
  • A failed picture upload no longer fails the whole command: it warns (published <hash>, but picture N failed to upload) and still returns the item, so retries don't publish duplicates.
  • item edit gains --category <leaf-id> to pin the leaf id and skip taxonomy resolution.
  • Fake server implements picture2; TestItemCreatePublishesWithImages now asserts the picture2 call happens.
  • Includes a hidden wallapop debug-steps command that was used to explore the steps wizard while diagnosing this (kept in case it's useful; happy to drop it).

Testing

  • go test ./... passes.
  • Verified against production with a scratch listing: item create with 3 images now yields a 3-image gallery in order, verified via item images + downloading the CDN images and checking each one's content. Scratch listing deleted afterwards.

Happy to rework the picture-upload failure semantics if you'd rather the command fail loudly.

Wallapop's current API only attaches the first `image` part of the
multipart POST/PUT to /api/v3/items, so `item create --image a --image b
--image c` published listings with a single picture (the extra session
uploads to /api/v3/upload/{uuid}/pictures were ignored).

The web's Angular upload app does it in two steps (upload service,
processQueue): the create call carries just the first image, and the rest
of the gallery go to POST /api/v3/items/{id}/picture2 as multipart with a
plain `order` field (1-based position) plus the image under `image`.

This mirrors that: create/edit send only the leading picture, then
picture2 carries the remaining gallery in order. A failed picture upload
no longer fails the whole command; it warns and returns the item.

Also adds `item edit --category <leaf-id>`: the item detail exposes the
localized taxonomy path, which can fail to resolve against the create
tree, so callers can now pin the leaf id explicitly.

Includes a hidden `debug-steps` command used to explore Wallapop's new
server-driven listing wizard (POST /api/v3/steps), which is how this was
diagnosed.

Review in Change Stack →

item create and item edit upload the first image with the item write, then send remaining images in order to POST /api/v3/items/{id}/picture2; if an extra upload fails, the command warns and returns the item without propagating the upload error.

  • item edit --category <leaf-id> sets the leaf category directly and uses it to validate attributes when attributes are supplied.
  • The hidden debug-steps command exposes raw step requests and image uploads; the fake server supports picture2.
  • The supplied summary reports go test ./... passes. No current review findings or additional test results were supplied.

Walkthrough

The item edit command adds a leaf category flag and uses the selected category to resolve attributes. Item creation and editing send the first image with the item request, then upload remaining images individually. Upload failures produce warnings without changing the create or edit result. The client adds raw steps API helpers, and the CLI registers a hidden command for raw GET, upload, and JSON POST operations.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 4deda

The fake server can report one image after a second image is uploaded. This is a bounded testing discrepancy, not evidence that production uploads fail; the PR is mergeable with a fix or explicit follow-up.

Reviewed and fixed the gallery failure contract, explicit category plus attributes, non-positive category IDs, debug argument panic, upload help syntax, and large JSON integer preservation. Full Go tests, vet, staticcheck, build, and generated-reference checks pass locally. Vercel preview is excluded from readiness because it requires fork-author deployment authorization; repository CI remains required.

Count the default image before adding a picture.

When an existing Item has Images == 0, fakeImages reports one default image. A successful upload changes the count to 1, so the fake API still reports only one image. Set the stored count to 1 before adding the new image count.

Update the image-count logic in fakeImages so an existing Item with Images equal
to 0 is initialized to 1 before adding the successful upload count. Preserve the
current addition behavior for items that already have images.
