The fourteenth of the stack that builds a new design engine for the portal, and the second of phase 4. Home gets its own section in Appearance, and the preview shows it. Behind the portalDesignV2 Labs switch; with it off, nothing changes.

Home in Sections

  • On or off. Turning Home on starts it with a layout built from the pages the workspace has: Welcome, Share an idea with Status, Top ideas with Latest updates, the roadmap and help topics. A workspace that already has blocks keeps them.
  • Headline. Home's own headline and subtitle. While Home is on, the band's headline is named the Feedback headline, so the two never read alike.
  • Blocks. In order, each with the widths it allows, Move up, Move down and Remove, and Add a block (up to 12). Top ideas takes an order and a count, Latest updates a count, Roadmap which roadmap, Links a heading and up to six links, Welcome its text. A block whose page is off says so ("Hidden while Status is off").
  • Links. A link reaches the draft once it has a name and a whole web address, so a half-typed link is never saved and never refused.

The preview

  • With Home on, the preview switches between Home and Feedback (the feed at /feedback). Changing Home shows Home; turning it off shows the feed.
  • The preview carries the draft's Home and menu. The root shows Home to a preview that asks for it with page=home, whatever the saved design leads with, and loads every block's strings, since the draft's blocks arrive after the page.
  • Picking a block in the preview opens its row in Sections. The band picked on Home opens Home's headline.

Review and publish

Home's changes have names (Home page, Home headline, Home subtitle, Home blocks), the blocks read as how many there are, and an empty headline reads None.

Also

The Home section draws its four small icons inline. As icon modules shared with the post page, the inbox and other admin pages, they became chunks of their own there: one or two more requests on each.

The portal path hooks move from lib/client/hooks to components/public, where their callers live, since they now read the preview's draft menu.

Verification

  • Two local brand workspaces, Plume and Fieldnote, built their Homes in Appearance end to end with Playwright: Home on, headline and subtitle, a block moved, a Links block with two links, a block picked in the preview, the preview switched to the feed and back, Review and publish. Each check passed with no page errors. The live root is Home with the headline, on desktop, phone and dark. Share an idea on the live Home carried "Dark mode for the app" into the feed's open composer.
  • Critique from the first round widened the roadmap picker, and an empty headline now reads None in review.
  • New tests, each checked by breaking the code it covers: starting Home and keeping existing blocks, reordering and removing, the page-off hint, links saved only once whole; the page picker following Home on and off; the root's preview of Home and its every-area strings, and page=home ignored outside a preview; the preview address canonical for both pages; the draft's Home and menu over the preview channel, dropping what it cannot read; Home's change names and block counts.

Home gets its own section in Sections, and the preview shows it.

- Turning Home on starts it with a layout built from the pages the
workspace has: Welcome, Share an idea with Status, Top ideas with Latest
updates, the roadmap and help topics.
- Home's headline, then its blocks in order. Each block takes a width it
allows, moves up or down, and goes; Top ideas takes an order and a count,
Latest updates a count, Roadmap which roadmap, Links a heading and its
links, and Welcome its text. A block whose page is off says so. A link
reaches the draft once it has a name and a whole web address.
- With Home on, the preview switches between Home and the feed at
/feedback, and changing Home shows Home. Picking a block in the preview
opens its row. While Home is on, the band's own headline is named the
  Feedback headline.
- The preview carries the draft's Home and menu, and the root shows Home to
a preview that asks for it with page=home, whatever the saved design
leads with, with every block's strings.
- Review and publish names Home's changes and counts its blocks; an empty
  headline reads None.

The portal path hooks move to components/public, where their callers live,
since they read the preview's draft menu.

Its icons were modules it shared with the post page, the inbox and other
admin pages, which split them into chunks of their own there: one or two
more requests on each.

Condensed into #879. The stack is now five PRs, #878 to #882; this branch is kept as it was.
