A few bits, and bobs I'm adding to trends. This is a draft because it should be again refactor_24 (just waiting for trends to be merged), and I may add some more later.

The thinking being that if there's one data, then all the axes match.
And if there's zero, they all match vacuously.

I haven't got any other improvements to make at the moment. Since the trend stuff has now been merged, I've rebased this, and set it ready to review. If there's any other improvements, I'll make them in a separate branch.
