Kill only the character who logged off during a lure - #14
Conversation
A committed player's character is recorded when they log off. Once the grace period has run out, the death waits until that character is active again, through RPCharacters' activation event, and is dropped if that character has died in the meantime. RPCharacters is a soft dependency. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Record the character at LOWEST quit priority, before RPCharacters drops its data. A grace or death already owed keeps its character and deadline when another character logs off, and that other character takes no deserter damage and cannot settle the debt by dying or /lure leave. Deaths without a character are held with a console warning while RPCharacters runs; without RPCharacters, tagged deaths fall back to the account. …alive A pending lure death saved without a character is held while RPCharacters runs, but the account still took deserter damage and the death kept the lure from failing forever. Such debts now bring no deserter damage or outside warnings, and neither the debt nor its commitment counts towards keeping the lure alive. They still clear when the lure ends. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
When a player committed to a lure logged off and the grace ran out, the death waiting for them landed on whichever character logged in next. Their other characters could also take the deserter damage, or clear the debt by dying or leaving the lure.
The character a committed player logs off as is now recorded and saved with the lure state. The quit listener runs at the lowest priority, so it reads the character before RPCharacters unloads it. When the grace runs out, the death waits for that character. It applies when that character logs in or is switched to, and it is dropped if that character has died in the meantime. While it waits, another character on the account takes no deserter damage, gets no "outside" warning, and cannot clear the debt by dying or using
/lure leave. A later logout on another character does not replace the recorded character or restart the grace.Deaths saved before this change have no character. While RPCharacters is enabled, they are held instead of applied, and a console warning names the player and province until the lure ends or the account clears the debt. A held death brings the account no deserter damage or outside warnings, and neither the death nor the account's commitment keeps the lure alive, so an abandoned lure can still fail. Without RPCharacters, the plugin works as before and the death lands on the account at the next login.
If a player commits and then switches character without logging out, the commitment still follows the account. This goes away once characters are chosen at join (RPCharacters#89, stage 4).
Tested with
mvn clean verifyon Java 21 (146 tests, full line coverage). New tests cover quit listener order against RPCharacters' own quit listener, a second character logging off, deserter damage and/lure leaveon another character, legacy debts (including that they bring no deserter damage and do not keep a lure alive across a save and load) and the missing-RPCharacters fallback. Each fails against the earlier version of this PR.Part of TF-Minecraft/RPCharacters#89. Docs: TF-Minecraft/Docs#153.
