Summary

Backup rotation sorted snapshots by modification time alone. When two snapshots had the same time, the order was arbitrary and rotation could delete the backup that had just been written. Ties now fall back to the file name, which carries the timestamp and suffix.

VehicleRepositoryTest.vacuumIntoKeepsThreeNewest also set snapshot times in the future, so it failed in most full builds. It now uses times in the past, and a new test covers the tie.

Testing

mvn verify passed in five consecutive local runs (640 tests).

Rotation sorted snapshots by modification time alone, so with equal times it
could delete the backup just written. Ties now fall back to the file name.
The rotation test also set snapshot times in the future, which made it fail
in most full builds.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Backup rotation now uses snapshot timestamps and sequence numbers to order backups when modification times tie, keeping the newest-named snapshots.
  • Tests
    • Added coverage for backups with matching timestamps and adjusted the existing backup test to use timestamps set in the past.

Walkthrough

Backup rotation orders snapshots by modification time, then by parsed filename timestamp and sequence when modification times tie. Tests check which files remain after rotation and adjust timestamps used by an existing test.

Rotation ordering and tests

Rotation orders snapshots by modification time descending. When modification times tie, parseable filenames precede unparseable names and sort by timestamp, then numeric sequence, in descending order. Tests check retention when 11 files share a timestamp and set existing test timestamps starting one minute in the past.

A recovery could discard changes that remain available in a newer backup. Apply the rotation tie-breaker to recovery before merging.

Use the same tie-breaker when selecting a backup for recovery.

If valid backups have equal modification times, rotate retains the newest filename, but findNewestValid can select an older backup first. Apply compareSnapshotNames to the recovery sort as well.
