Tellus Cooperative is a community-led organization helping people across Latin America learn, build, and collaborate around blockchain, artificial intelligence, and digital public goods.
We create educational programs, support emerging builders, develop practical open-source tools, and connect communities with the resources they need to turn ideas into real projects.
Technology should not be limited to the people who already understand it.
Our mission is to build cooperative infrastructure that enables communities to:
- Access emerging technologies and practical opportunities.
- Learn through open, approachable, and community-driven education.
- Build useful products with real-world applications.
- Contribute to open-source projects regardless of experience level.
- Cooperate across countries, disciplines, and ecosystems.
We believe that meaningful innovation happens when knowledge is shared and communities have the tools to build for themselves.
| Area | What it means at Tellus |
|---|---|
| Education | Workshops, learning paths, technical resources, and programs such as Stellar Academy. |
| Open source | Practical software that communities and developers can study, fork, adapt, and deploy. |
| Community | Events, collaborative spaces, and connections between students, builders, founders, and institutions. |
| Project support | Guidance, visibility, resources, and pathways for early-stage projects to move forward. |
| Public knowledge | Articles, guides, research, and documentation published openly for the broader ecosystem. |
We do not publish code simply to call it open source. We aim to create projects that another person can understand, run, modify, and deploy.
Our open-source work follows five principles:
- Practical — every project should address a clear problem.
- Forkable — setup, configuration, and deployment should be straightforward.
- Documented — repositories should include examples, screenshots, and complete instructions.
- Responsible — privacy, security, and non-custodial design are considered from the beginning.
- Accessible — documentation should be available in English and, whenever possible, Spanish and Portuguese.
| Project | Description | Stage |
|---|---|---|
| Stellar Bounties | A GitHub-native bounties board supporting public-goods development in the Stellar ecosystem. | Public |
| Ideatón | An open platform and reference implementation created for community ideation and hackathon programs. | Public |
| Sorobounty | An early experiment using Soroban smart contracts for bounty and escrow workflows. | Legacy / experimental |
| Bookee | A community-built tool that turns public Stellar account activity into a local accounting record without requesting private keys. | Community project |
Repository maturity varies. Check each project's README, release history, and security notes before using it in production.
Our next open-source initiatives focus on tools that can be reused by developers, communities, educational institutions, and small organizations:
- Non-custodial payment links for USDC and XLM on Stellar.
- Verifiable educational certificates that protect participant privacy.
- Open accounting tools for public Stellar activity.
- AI agent payment examples using Stellar-based micropayments.
- Community and project directories powered by open data.
- Reusable Soroban examples for bounties and milestone-based payments.
These initiatives are separate from Tellus products that are not open source. A project appears here only when its code is intentionally released under an open-source license.
You do not need to be an experienced blockchain developer to contribute.
Contributions may include:
- Fixing a bug or improving documentation.
- Translating guides into Spanish, Portuguese, or English.
- Designing interfaces and improving accessibility.
- Creating examples or tutorials.
- Testing projects and reporting reproducible issues.
- Proposing features based on real community needs.
- Helping review pull requests.
- Choose a repository and read its
README.mdandCONTRIBUTING.md. - Look for issues labeled
good first issueorhelp wanted. - Comment on the issue before starting significant work.
- Fork the repository and create a focused branch.
- Submit a pull request explaining the problem and your solution.
- Respond to feedback from the project maintainers.
Please keep pull requests small, documented, and focused on one clear change.
New Tellus open-source projects should include:
- A clear README and project status.
- An open-source license.
CONTRIBUTING.mdandCODE_OF_CONDUCT.md.- A security reporting process.
- An
.env.examplewithout secrets. - Local setup and deployment instructions.
- Automated tests for critical functionality.
- Screenshots or a working demonstration.
- Sample data that does not expose personal information.
- Testnet as the default environment for blockchain examples.
Please do not publish vulnerabilities, credentials, private keys, personal information, or active exploits in a public issue.
If a repository contains a SECURITY.md file, follow the reporting process described there. Otherwise, contact Tellus through our official website before disclosing the issue publicly.
Open-source code may be experimental and is not automatically audited or suitable for production use. Review each repository's documentation and risk notices carefully.

English is used as the primary language for technical documentation so that our work can reach the global ecosystem. Contributions and community resources in Spanish and Portuguese are strongly encouraged.
Each repository defines its own license. Review the LICENSE file before reusing code.
Tellus Cooperative's name, logos, illustrations, and other brand assets are not automatically covered by a repository's software license unless explicitly stated. Forking a project does not imply endorsement or an official partnership with Tellus Cooperative.
Aprende. Construye. Comparte. Coopera.
Built openly by Tellus Cooperative and its community.
