What

Rebuilds @teslemetry/n8n-nodes-teslemetry on n8n's own helpers so the package can pass n8n's verification scanner. The package no longer bundles or depends on @teslemetry/api. No other package changes.

  • Vehicle and Energy nodes call the API through this.helpers.httpRequestWithAuthentication with the package's teslemetryApi credential (Bearer header). A node-local teslemetryRequest() in nodes/shared.ts sets the base URL https://api.teslemetry.com, sends the request with ignoreHttpStatusErrors, and maps a non-2xx answer to NodeApiError with the API's own text and HTTP status. Each operation is a small table entry with the same path and body the SDK sent; the existing per-operation tests still assert them.
  • Layout: sources move from src/ to n8n's standard nodes/<Node>/<Node>.node.ts and credentials/. n8n's lint and the scanner read only that layout (the no-credential-reuse errors came from src/).
  • Lint fixes: no-case-declarations, no-explicit-any, missing-paired-item, node-connection-type-literal, no-credential-reuse, require-node-description-fields, icon-validation, node-usable-as-tool, cred-class-field-icon-missing, plus the option-ordering and label-casing rules that apply once sources are in nodes/.
  • Resources: the newest scanner (@n8n/scan-community-package@0.40.0, plugin 0.37.0) makes resource-operation-pattern an error (the repo's node-cli 0.51.5 still reports it as a warning). Vehicle operations are now grouped as Vehicle, Doors and Closure, Climate, Charging; Energy as Status, Setting. Operation values are unchanged and execute() dispatches on the operation alone, so saved workflows keep running. A saved node whose operation is outside the default resource may need its resource picked again in the editor.

No timers, events, global fetch, globalThis or console remain: a grep of the packed dist/ finds none, and nothing is aliased or hidden.

Trigger decision: polling, not dropped

n8n Cloud forbids the long-lived reconnecting SSE stream (timers + events + fetch), and emulating it with hidden timers would evade the check. The Trigger is now a polling trigger (polling: true, poll()), run on n8n's standard Poll Times schedule (default: every minute). It records a baseline on the first check after activation and then emits one item per changed value; a manual test run returns the current values.

  • Vehicle events read GET /api/1/vehicles/{vin}/telemetry, the cached Fleet Telemetry snapshot. Per the API spec this read never wakes the car, never calls Tesla and costs no credits. Events kept: Any Change, Data (changed fields only), Signal (one field), State, Connectivity, Alerts, Errors, Vehicle Data.
  • Energy events read live_status (Teslemetry cache refreshed about every 30 s) or site_info (about every 5 min). Events kept: Live Status, Site Info, Tariff Content. tariff_content_v2: null is emitted as a tariff removal; an absent field emits nothing.
  • Not carried over: the stream-only Credits, Config and Energy Totals events, and the "all vehicles" / "all sites" choice (a VIN or site is now required).

I chose polling over dropping the trigger because the cached telemetry endpoint gives the same data topics the stream carried, at no credit cost, so the main use (start a workflow when a vehicle value changes) still works, with the poll interval as latency.

Proof

Scanner. npx @n8n/scan-community-package only scans versions already published to npm. I ran its own lint stage (analyzePackage from scanner/scanner.mjs, v0.40.0) on the packed tarball (**/*.{js,ts,json}) and on the package source with the scanner's SOURCE_FILE_PATTERNS (the provenance-source step):

tarball (.../tarball/package): PASSED
source (.../packages/n8n-nodes-teslemetry): PASSED
exit 0

Before this PR, 0.5.1 failed with 23 errors, all in the bundled SDK chunk. The provenance step runs only after publish.

Linter (pnpm --filter @teslemetry/n8n-nodes-teslemetry validate = n8n-node lint v0.51.5): before this PR 52 errors and 5 warnings; now:

✖ 4 problems (0 errors, 4 warnings)

The 4 warnings are icon-prefer-themed-variants (single-file icons; light/dark variants are optional).

Tests: pnpm --filter @teslemetry/n8n-nodes-teslemetry test through testgate, 119 pass, 0 fail. The tests now answer through a fake httpRequestWithAuthentication in place of a mocked global fetch. The SSE tests are replaced by polling tests (baseline, changed fields only, Any Change, Signal, manual run, subject change, energy live status, tariff removal, API failure without the credential).

Load check: verify:package packs the tarball and loads it with n8n's PackageDirectoryLoader: 3 nodes and 1 credential.

Live check: the built nodes driven through n8n-core's real httpRequest (axios) against the live API:

getFields (no auth needed): 258 fields, e.g. ACChargingEnergyIn, ACChargingPower, AccRail
lockDoors with a bad token: NodeApiError "Invalid authentication token" httpCode=401 description="Teslemetry API answered: invalid_token, HTTP 401" carriesToken=false
trigger poll with a bad token: NodeApiError "Invalid authentication token" httpCode=401

Risks and open points

  • Not tested with a valid token. No live command or successful poll against a real vehicle or site was run.
  • Region: the SDK switched to na/eu.teslemetry.com from the x-region header. These nodes always call api.teslemetry.com, the same host the credential test already uses.
  • Energy credit wording: the README says cache reads of live_status/site_info cost no credits and only fresh fetches from Tesla do. That statement comes from the task brief; the API spec documents the caching, but not the billing.
  • Breaking for the Trigger (changeset: minor): existing SSE Trigger nodes become polling triggers. Workflows that use Credits, Config, Energy Totals or "all vehicles/sites" need a new event or a VIN/site.

Bre77 added 3 commits October 22, 2026 08:39
The Vehicle and Energy nodes no longer bundle @teslemetry/api. A node-local
teslemetryRequest() sends each request through
this.helpers.httpRequestWithAuthentication with the package's credential and
maps failures to NodeApiError with the API's text and status.

Sources move to n8n's standard nodes/<Node>/ and credentials/ layout, which
n8n's lint and scanner read. Operations are grouped by resource, labels follow
n8n's lint rules, and every output item carries pairedItem.

The SSE Trigger is removed here and rebuilt as a polling trigger in the next
commit.
n8n Cloud forbids the long-lived reconnecting stream the SDK's SSE client
needs (timers, events, global fetch), and emulating it with hidden timers would
evade n8n's check. The trigger now uses n8n's poll() helper on the Poll Times
schedule and emits only values that changed since the previous check.

Vehicle events read GET /api/1/vehicles/{vin}/telemetry, the cached telemetry
snapshot: it never wakes the car and costs no credits. Energy events read
live_status or site_info, which Teslemetry serves from its own cache. A null
tariff_content_v2 is reported as a tariff removal.

Not carried over: the stream-only Credits, Config and Energy Totals events, and
watching all vehicles or all sites at once.
README describes the resources and the polling trigger (interval, cached reads,
credit cost, dropped events). The add-command skill and AGENTS.md no longer
say the n8n package uses @teslemetry/api. Changeset: minor.

📝 Walkthrough

The n8n package now uses shared authenticated HTTP requests instead of the bundled Teslemetry SDK. Vehicle and Energy operations are grouped by resource. The Trigger node now polls vehicle or energy-site readings and emits changes. Build paths, tests, and documentation use the relocated node sources.

Document the n8n SDK restriction and current operation names.

The changeset states that the package uses n8n's HTTP helper to pass the verification scanner and no longer bundles @teslemetry/api. Use that wording instead of stating that the scanner rejects the package.

The current names are operation identifiers, not removed methods. Include Get Tariff, which is also a read operation.

📝 Suggested fix
 ## `n8n-nodes-teslemetry`

 - A node's `version` field must match `package.json`.
-- The Trigger node's Signal event covers any `getFields()` field, and `vehicleData()`/`getLiveStatus()`/`getSiteInfo()` cover reads - add operations only for new **commands**.
+- Keep this package free of `@teslemetry/api`: it uses n8n's HTTP helper to pass n8n's verification scanner. Call endpoints through `teslemetryRequest()` in `nodes/shared.ts`.
+- The Trigger node's Signal event supports fields returned by `/fields.json`, and the Get Vehicle Data, Get Live Status, Get Site Info, and Get Tariff operations cover reads - add operations only for new **commands**.
