fix(security): rebuild on Go 1.27.2 and scan the shipped release daily - #204
Conversation
v0.9.0 binaries and images were built on go1.27.1 on 2026-10-08, the day go1.27.2 came out with fixes for ten stdlib advisories govulncheck finds reachable. The govulncheck job in test.yml cannot see this: it installs the newest patch, so it is green again as soon as the patch exists. Add a daily Release Vulncheck workflow that reads the Go version out of the latest release binary, checks out that tag and scans it with that exact toolchain. Releasing this commit rebuilds everything on go1.27.2. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Why
v0.9.0 (binaries and Docker images) was built on go1.27.1 on 2026-10-08. go1.27.2 was released the same day and fixes ten standard library advisories that
govulncheckreports as reachable from our code. Checked on the artefacts themselves:go versionon the binary insideghcr.io/upellift99/gatecha:0.9.0and ongatecha_0.9.0_linux_amd64.tar.gzboth answergo1.27.1. Scanning the tree with that toolchain gives 10 findings, with go1.27.2 it gives 0.Nothing flagged it because the
govulncheckjob intest.ymlinstalls the newest patch (check-latest: true), so it goes green again the moment a patch exists, while the published release keeps the stdlib it was linked against. Dependabot does not see the standard library at all.Real exposure
GateCHA serves plain HTTP/1.1 (
ListenAndServe, no TLS, no h2c) and has no outbound HTTP client, so most of the ten do not apply to a running instance:Rangeheader with many small ranges. The dashboard is served byhttp.FileServer, reachable without authentication. A reverse proxy forwardsRangeas is, so being behind one does not help.crypto/tlsECH one (6607) since the process terminates no TLS, the client CONNECT one (6605) since there is no client, the multipart one (6608) since no handler parses multipart forms, and the server CONNECT one (6613) since no handler answers 2xx to CONNECT.So this is one unauthenticated denial of service on the dashboard's static files, not a data exposure. Worth a release, not an emergency rollout.
What changes
Release Vulncheckworkflow, daily plus manual. It downloads the latest release's linux/amd64 archive, reads the Go version recorded in the binary (this survives the-s -wstrip), checks out the release tag, installs that exact Go patch and runsgovulncheck ./...withGOTOOLCHAIN=local. Red means "cut a release to rebuild".CLAUDE.md: one more known constraint explaining why a greengovulncheckon main says nothing about the latest release. No Go or frontend code changes. The
fix:type is deliberate: it makes release-please open 0.9.1, and building that tag today picks up go1.27.2 in both the goreleaser job and thegolang:1.27-alpineimage (verified: the tag now resolves to go1.27.2).Verification
1.27.1.GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.27.1 go run golang.org/x/vuln/cmd/govulncheck@latest ./...exits 3 with 10 findings, the same command withgo1.27.2reports none.pull_requesttrigger on purpose: against v0.9.0 it is expected to fail. It will be dispatched once 0.9.1 is published to confirm it goes green.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
