The bilingual README had grown to 763 lines of detailed query, audit, indexing, and status contracts before and around the introductory content. Reduce it to 151 lines focused on the product overview, quick start, capabilities, documentation links, contribution policy, and license.

  • Consolidate detailed English and Japanese guidance into existing User Guide and Developer Guide sections, retaining status fields and correcting links to moved content.
  • Keep one badge block directly below the README title.
  • Update status-documentation and license checks to validate the linked references and single badge block; align agent/testing guidance with the new documentation locations.

Validation:

  • DocumentationStatusContractTests, DocumentationDriftTests, and LicensePolicyTests: 22 passing tests on each of .NET 8 and .NET 9.
  • Checked 78 README and changed guide links, retained detail paragraphs, and bilingual status-field coverage.
  • git diff --check and dotnet run --project tools/CodeIndex.Changelog -- check passed.

Documentation and bilingual changelog are included. Fragment: changelog.d/unreleased/+readme-intro-cleanup.docs.md.

- Keep README focused on overview, quick start, and documentation links
- Move detailed contracts and workflows into existing guides
- Show badges only once at the top
- Update documentation and license checks
