📝 Walkthrough

This change adds team-scoped job-title reuse and a shared creation modal. It integrates title creation into rate-card and member-editing interfaces, updates team-member self-access and roster permissions, adds or reorganizes related translations, and updates the backend Node.js requirement.

Changes: Team-member and job-title workflows

Layer / File(s) Summary
Self-access and role protection
worklenz-backend/src/middlewares/validators/team-member-self-or-management-validator.ts, worklenz-backend/src/routes/apis/team-members-api-router.ts, worklenz-backend/src/shared/team-permissions.ts, worklenz-backend/src/controllers/team-members-controller.ts, worklenz-backend/src/tests/team-member-self-edit-access.spec.ts
Member read, update, and name routes allow self-access or management access. Controller checks support database-backed self-identification and preserve role and admin values during self-edits. Tests cover authorization and self-update behavior.
Job-title creation and rate-card integration
worklenz-backend/src/controllers/job-titles-controller.ts, worklenz-frontend/src/components/common/create-job-title-modal/CreateJobTitleModal.tsx, worklenz-frontend/src/components/projects/project-finance/rate-card-drawer/RateCardDrawer.tsx, worklenz-frontend/src/components/projects/project-finance/ratecard-table/RateCardTable.tsx, worklenz-frontend/public/locales/{alb,de,en,es,fr,pl,pt,zh}/*
The create endpoint reuses case-insensitive matches from the active team and retries lookup after a unique violation. The shared modal validates and submits titles. Rate-card selectors open the modal and refresh or update title options after creation. Create-title labels are added across locales.
Member editing, roster permissions, and translations
worklenz-frontend/src/components/settings/update-member-drawer.tsx, worklenz-frontend/src/components/settings/__tests__/update-member-drawer-permissions.test.ts, worklenz-frontend/src/pages/home/home-my-team/HomeMyTeam.tsx, worklenz-frontend/src/pages/projects/projectView/members/project-view-members.tsx, worklenz-frontend/public/locales/{alb,de,es,pt,zh}/settings/team-members.json
The member drawer applies detail, role, and manager permissions, supports job-title creation, and loads sorted titles in one request. Roster pages update job-title editing and conditionally show member actions. Team-member locales add or reorganize interface strings.

Backend runtime requirement

Layer / File(s) Summary
Node.js runtime alignment
.github/workflows/ci.yaml, worklenz-backend/package.json
The backend CI job uses Node.js 22. The backend package engine minimum is >=22.12.0.

Concurrent title creation can leave duplicate team titles, and member edits and rate-card flows can create unauthorized or inconsistent title assignments. The published backend image also remains below the declared Node.js minimum; resolve these issues before merging.

Make title reuse atomic.

Two concurrent requests can both pass the case-insensitive lookup and insert the same team title. Add a database uniqueness rule for (team_id, lower(name)), then use ON CONFLICT DO NOTHING and query the existing row before returning.

Remove the pending empty row only on cancellation.

The modal uses onClose for both cancellation and successful creation. It calls onClose() immediately after onSuccess(), while the drawer's success handler still awaits getJobTitles(). Do not delete the row from onClose. Add a separate cancel callback and perform the cleanup there.

worklenz-frontend/src/components/projects/project-finance/rate-card-drawer/RateCardDrawer.tsx:641-645
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Do not add a rate-card role for an ID already in roles.

When a user creates a title already assigned to this rate card, the create endpoint returns the existing title. This handler assigns that ID to the pending row without checking the other rows. The table then has two rows with the same job_title_id, which it also uses as rowKey. Check for an existing role before assigning the returned ID, and remove the empty pending row on a match.

Prevent cancellation while submission is pending.

When a user closes the modal during the POST, Ant Design can call handleCancel through the close icon, Escape, or the mask despite the disabled Cancel button. The pending response can then call onSuccess after onCancel removes a rate-card row. RateCardTable can insert the role anyway. Block all dismissal paths while isSubmitting, or ignore the late success after cancellation. (ant.design)

Assign the title before refreshing the options.

If getJobTitles() rejects after the POST succeeds, this callback never assigns the created title to the pending role. The modal has already shown success and does not await this callback, so the refresh rejection also escapes its error handler. Assign the returned ID first. Handle a failed options refresh separately.

Reviewed 273f3af. The quick-create modal and returned job-title identity are wired through the member/rate-card views, but the newly enabled self-edit flow is inconsistent with backend authorization. Executing the actual teamRoleManagementValidator with the current permission helpers returns 401 for Member and Team Lead and allows Admin/Owner. The relevant get/update routes still use that validator. Reported CI is green; no live application database was used.

[P2] Align member self-edit actions with backend permissions. This now enables basic-detail editing for a Member/Team Lead editing their own account, and Project Members/My Team expose new click targets for that flow. However GET /team-members/:id, PUT /:id, and PUT /:id/name still require teamRoleManagementValidator, which rejects both roles; getTeamMember cannot populate the drawer and saves cannot succeed. Add narrowly scoped authenticated self-read/self-update support that protects role/admin fields, or keep these actions disabled for unsupported roles. The job-title POST is owner/admin-only too, so gate quick creation appropriately.

…k-create

- Introduce teamMemberSelfOrManagementValidator for GET /team-members/:id, PUT /:id, and PUT /:id/name to permit authenticated self-read and self-update
- Protect role and admin fields on backend self-update to prevent privilege escalation
- Keep management-only operations (deactivate, delete, resend invite) strictly owner/admin guarded
- Disable role and manager selects in update-member-drawer when editing own profile
- Gate quick job title creation to owner and admin across member drawer and project rate-card views
- Add unit tests for self-access validator, role locking, and frontend drawer permissions

Reject an existing rate-card role before assigning the returned title.

If the entered name matches a title already on this rate card, the creation API returns that title’s existing ID. This callback assigns the ID to the pending row without the duplicate check used by the selector. The drawer then contains two rows with the same job_title_id, including duplicate table keys. Check the returned ID against the other roles and remove or retain the pending row without assigning a duplicate. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Test the drawer’s permission logic instead of a copy.

evaluatePermissions duplicates the permission rules in update-member-drawer.tsx. The test does not execute the drawer’s production logic, so changes to canEditMemberDetails, canEditRole, or canCreateJobTitle can leave these assertions passing.

Extract the rules into one exported pure function, such as getMemberDrawerPermissions in role-permissions.utils.ts, and import it from both the drawer and this test.

Restrict job-title creation on self-update.

PUT /team-members/:id allows a member to update their own record. The controller locks only role_name and is_admin, then forwards job_title to update_team_member. That SQL function calls insert_job_title, which inserts an unknown title for the team.

The suggested allowlist still includes job_title, so it does not prevent the creation path. Enforce the permission at the update boundary: self-updates may select an existing team title, but only owners/admins may create one. If self-updates omit job_title, preserve the current job_title_id; the current SQL otherwise sets it to NULL. Keep department_id and practice_id in the self-update allowlist.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Do not enable non-self Owner edit actions.

The add-member path can create a second Owner. The backend then rejects updates to that non-self Owner through ensureManageableTarget. Both My Team and Project Members still enable the edit menu and job-title action, so the user can open an action that cannot complete.

Remove the unconditional Owner branch from all four roster predicates. Keep isCurrentUser so an Owner can edit their own record.

Suggested fix
-const canEdit =
-  isCurrentUser || effectiveRole === ROLE_NAMES.OWNER || (canManage && !isTargetOwner);
+const canEdit = isCurrentUser || (canManage && !isTargetOwner);

Apply the same logic to the job-title-cell predicates in both rosters and to the Project Members action-menu predicate.
