LaneSense

The League of Legends companion app for Mac

Auto-import runes and item sets, see the best picks in champion select, get an in-game overlay that tells you what to level and what to buy next, and review every game with a post-match dashboard. Native macOS, no account, no API key.

Build Release Platform Apple silicon Swift License: MIT

LaneSense game dashboard

Most League of Legends companion apps (rune importers, build helpers, overlays) are Windows-only. LaneSense is built for macOS from the ground up: SwiftUI, a menu-bar app, and a floating panel that docks beside the League client. If you play League on a Mac and want runes, builds, tier lists, match history and an overlay, this is for you.

Features

Champion select advisor The floating panel shows the best picks for your role with win rate and pick rate. Hover or lock a champion and you see its win rate, then its recommended build. In ARAM it ranks your champion and the bench by win rate.
Rune and item set auto-import Recommended runes go into a page named LaneSense · Champion Role, items into a matching item set, and summoner spells optionally. Your own pages and sets are never touched. Turn any of it off in Settings.
In-game overlay A click-through overlay shows the next item to buy (and how close your gold is) and puts a pulsing highlight on the skill to level up. Drag it, resize it and change its opacity without leaving the game.
Game dashboard After every game: a grade and score, achievement-style awards for all ten players, what you did well, what to improve, a gold-lead chart with the story of the game, objectives, and how you ranked against the lobby. It opens when the game ends.
Match history Filter by All, Ranked, Normal or ARAM. Full ten-player scoreboards. ARAM-aware. Every game is archived on your Mac, so history grows past what the client keeps.
Meta tier list S to D tiers per role for the current patch.
LaneSense score A radar of eight stats (fighting, farming, vision, aggression, toughness, teamplay, consistency, versatility), ranked against the other nine players in each game. 50 is the lobby average.
Native and private Swift Package, no sandbox tricks, no account, no API key. Everything runs locally and only reads your own signed-in client.

Install

  1. Download LaneSense-macOS.zip from the latest release and unzip it.
  2. Move LaneSense.app to Applications. The first time, right-click it and choose Open (the build is not notarised yet).
  3. Start League of Legends. The panel appears beside the client whenever it is in front.

Requires macOS 14 or later. Release builds are for Apple silicon.

Build from source

You only need the Swift toolchain (Xcode or the Command Line Tools):

git clone https://github.com/YasiSaps/LaneSense.git
cd LaneSense/macos
scripts/bundle.sh # produces LaneSense.app
open LaneSense.app

Preview the interface without the client: LANESENSE_MOCK=1 swift run. Print what the client reports: .build/debug/LaneSense --probe.

Using the in-game overlay

The overlay works with League in windowed or borderless mode (macOS cannot draw over exclusive fullscreen).

  • It shows only while the game is in front.
  • Move, resize, opacity: open the options menu (Esc) or hold Tab, then hover the item card. A small strip appears. Drag to move, drag the corner to resize.
  • Settings: size and opacity sliders, a live preview over the game while Settings is open, a "Test overlay" button, and nudge sliders for the skill highlight if you use a custom HUD scale.

FAQ

Is there a League of Legends companion app for Mac? Yes, this one. Rune importers, overlays and tier lists are mostly Windows-only, and LaneSense is a native macOS app.

Does it import runes and item sets automatically on Mac? Yes. Pick a champion and, once your pick has been stable for a couple of seconds, LaneSense creates a rune page and an item set for you. It never edits your own pages.

Do I need a Riot API key or to sign in? No. LaneSense reads the League client already running on your Mac through its local API, plus the in-game Live Client Data feed. Nothing leaves your machine except requests for public data (see below).

Is it safe to use? LaneSense does not read game memory, inject code or send inputs, and it only uses the client's local API and Riot's Live Client Data feed. It is a third-party tool and not endorsed by Riot Games, so use it at your own risk.

Does it work in ARAM and ARAM Mayhem? Yes. ARAM games get ARAM-specific stats, builds and win-rate based suggestions.

Where does the build and meta data come from? From u.gg's public stats files (Emerald+, current patch) and Riot's Data Dragon. The u.gg feed is undocumented and may change.

What about Windows? There is an experimental Windows port in windows/ with champion-select builds and auto-import. It is not runtime-tested yet and has none of the history, meta, scoring, live or overlay features.

How it works

  • LCU/ finds the client's port and password and talks to it over a loopback-only connection.
  • Data/CompanionStore follows the game-flow phase, loads your profile, ranks and history, and archives finished games under ~/Library/Application Support/LaneSense/.
  • Data/Scoring and Data/Insights turn the match and timeline data into scores, awards and recommendations.
  • Live/ reads the Live Client Data feed (127.0.0.1:2999) and decides the next skill and item from your chosen build.
  • Overlay/ draws the click-through overlay, the skill highlight and the start-up animation over the game window.
  • Window/ follows the client window and docks a non-activating panel to it.
  • Icons are downloaded once and cached on disk.

See CONTRIBUTING.md to build, test and send changes.

Roadmap

Lobby teammate lookup, counter-pick hints, LP-over-time graph, per-champion stats, a signed and notarised release, a Windows overlay.
