PasteFit

PasteFit is a free Windows tool that cleans up what you copied before you paste it. Press a shortcut, look at the preview, and press Enter. It fixes the broken lines you get when you copy from a PDF, removes formatting, puts text on one line, and pastes tables cleanly into Word, Outlook or Excel.

This repository hosts the release builds and their checksums. It is a beta: please report problems (see below).

Download

Get PasteFit.exe from the Releases page. Each release lists the SHA-256 checksum of the file.

The program is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen or your antivirus may show a warning. Before you run it, check the file against the published checksum. In PowerShell:

Get-FileHash .\PasteFit.exe -Algorithm SHA256

If the hashes match, choose More info, then Run anyway. PasteFit does not need administrator rights.

How to use

1. Run PasteFit.exe. The first time, a short guide opens with a sample text you can try. After that, PasteFit waits in the notification area next to the clock.
2. Copy text or a table (Ctrl+C).
3. Click where you want to paste it and press Win+Alt+V. If another program already uses that shortcut, PasteFit picks a different one and shows it in the guide. You can change it in Settings.
4. A small window shows how the text will look, with the recommended way already selected. Press Enter to paste, 1 to 4 to choose another way, or Esc to cancel.

Ways to clean

• Keep text only removes fonts, colors and links, and cleans up stray spaces.
• Fix line breaks joins lines that were cut in the middle of a sentence, as in text copied from a PDF. Blank lines and list items stay where they are. It knows that Chinese and Japanese text has no spaces between words.
• Make one line puts it all on one line, for a search box, an input field or a single cell.
• Paste as table pastes a table from a web page or Excel as a clean table in Word, Outlook or a browser, and as cells in Excel. Tables are not supported in Hangul (HWP) yet; there it pastes text separated by tabs.

Your clipboard stays private

• PasteFit reads the clipboard only when you press the shortcut. It does not watch the clipboard.
• It does not save what you copy and keeps no history.
• It sends nothing over the internet.
• If a password manager marks what you copied, the preview hides it.

When it does not paste by itself

PasteFit cannot paste into a window that runs as administrator, or into a remote desktop window. In those cases the cleaned text is already on the clipboard, so press Ctrl+V. After pasting, the cleaned text stays on the clipboard. To undo a paste, press Ctrl+Z in the program you pasted into.

Report a problem

Open an issue in this repository. Include your Windows version, the program you pasted into, and a short example of what you copied. Remove anything you do not want to make public before you post it.

You may redistribute the original, unmodified PasteFit.exe free of charge, including on software download sites and on storage media. Don't modify it, wrap it in another installer or download manager, bundle it with other software or offers, or charge for it.

The icon uses Google Material Symbols, licensed under the Apache License 2.0.

The window theme is the Sun Valley ttk theme by rdbende, licensed under the MIT License. Its license file ships inside PasteFit.exe.
