Gemini and Grok both persisted a refreshed token by reading the file, rebuilding it from the fields Ceiling models, and writing it back with no lock and no atomic replace. Three things could go wrong: two refreshes at once could interleave and lose one, a crash partway through the write could truncate the file and sign the user out, and any field Ceiling does not model was dropped, including a newer refresh token the provider's own CLI had just written. Hold a per-file write lock for the whole read-modify-write, merge only the fields the refresh actually changed into the parsed document, and replace the file atomically. Preserve the destination's existing permissions rather than forcing Ceiling's private ACL onto a file another application owns. On Windows that means ReplaceFileW, which transfers the destination's metadata to the replacement; the temporary file stays current-user-only until that swap. On Unix the existing mode is copied to the temp file first. The lock serializes Ceiling against itself. The provider CLIs do not participate in it, so a concurrent refresh by the CLI can still race; the atomic replace keeps the file valid and complete either way.
Recreated auth.json scopes now persist known OIDC identity fields. Restore DACL via SetNamedSecurityInfo and treat owner rewrite as best-effort.
If auth.json already has other keys, do not recreate a missing scope. Only create a scope when the file is missing or empty.
Skip persist when on-disk and in-memory id_token identities differ. Rebuild torn oauth_creds.json from the refresh in memory. Repair null or empty refresh_token values.

Why
Gemini and Grok both persisted a refreshed token by reading the file, rebuilding it from the fields Ceiling models, and writing it back with no lock and no atomic replace. Three failure modes:
What
with_file_write_lockholds a per-file lock across the whole read-modify-write.ReplaceFileW, which transfers the destination's metadata to the replacement; the temp file stays current-user-only until that swap. Unix copies the existing mode to the temp file first.Notes for review
~/.gemini/.oauth_creds.json.ceiling-write.lock). Deliberate, so unrelated credential paths don't fold into Ceiling's global state lock, but it is a Ceiling artifact in someone else's folder.refresh_token, keeping whatever is on disk. Right call as long as Google doesn't rotate it on refresh, and it's what stops a stale in-memory value from clobbering a newer one. Called out so nobody "fixes" it later.Testing
cargo test -- secure_file:: providers::gemini providers::grok— 34 pass, including per-provider tests for unknown-field preservation, two concurrent refreshes leaving valid complete JSON, and a failed persist leaving the original bytes untouched.
