Summary

Pins @earendil-works/pi-ai and @earendil-works/pi-coding-agent at 1.3.0 (was 1.0.4), crossing 1.1.0, 1.2.0, and 1.3.0. Only the engine moves in this PR; the user-visible feature notes and the version bump wait for the release.

  • Engine surface unchanged for Pace. Still only the pi-coding-agent root entry and pi-ai/bun-oauth. createCodemodeExtension, createToolSearchExtension, and createMcpExtension are still exported, and builtInExtensions keeps its shape (including the llama.cpp built-in Pace deliberately skips).
  • pi mcp list --json shape change. Since 1.2.0, resources is a boolean true instead of a count, and resourceTemplates is gone. McpServerProbe and the probe passthrough follow that shape; the field has no UI consumer today.
  • chord leaves the engine. 1.2.0 dropped @earendil-works/chord and deleted the unpublished pi-server / pi-client / pi-protocol packages. Pace never imported chord, so bundles are unchanged (the lockfile also sheds chord's esbuild subtree).
  • ADR-0031 records the upgrade; ADR-0042 is marked obsolete: its premise (chord shipped with the embedded engine) no longer holds, chord 1.3.0 now only belongs to @earendil-works/pi-durable, and the extension-panel question returns to the extension UI slot ADR-0018 reserved.

Test plan

  • bun run typecheck
  • bun run lint
  • bun run test — 173 files, 2123 tests
  • bun run build — including the ADR-0046 guard on Pi's dist/config.js string replacement and the chunks/ placement check
  • bun run test:bundled-runtime — 4/4, including codemode → MCP end to end with no node_modules and an empty PATH, which is the packaging-layout regression for codemode's worker and quickjs.wasm
  • Verified against 1.3.0's dist: the QuickJS resolve line still appears exactly once, dist/extensions/{codemode/worker.js, mcp, tool-search} still exist, and the three built-in factories are still exported from the root
  • Packaged E2E, real OAuth, and compaction-heavy fork still need manual acceptance before a release (same split as previous engine upgrades in ADR-0031)

Pin pi-ai and pi-coding-agent at 1.3.0 (was 1.0.4). Pace keeps using only
the package root and pi-ai/bun-oauth; the codemode, tool-search, and MCP
built-in factories are still exported, and chord is no longer a dependency
of the engine.

`pi mcp list --json` reports `resources` as a boolean since Pi 1.2.0 and
dropped `resourceTemplates`, so McpServerProbe and the probe passthrough
follow that shape.

ADR-0031 records the upgrade; ADR-0042 notes that its premise (chord ships
with the engine) no longer holds.
Pi 1.2.0 dropped the chord dependency and removed the unpublished
pi-server, pi-client, and pi-protocol packages; chord 1.3.0 is still
published but only pi-durable depends on it, with a rewritten protocol.
The ADR's premise — chord arriving with the embedded engine — does not
hold, so the plan is not pursued and the extension panel question goes
back to the extension UI slot ADR-0018 reserved.
…d note

The upgrade entry copied an older claim that Pace uses only the root entry
and pi-ai/bun-oauth. Since 2026-10-01 the backend also imports
dist/extensions/mcp/{cli,config,oauth}.js through the @pace/pi-mcp alias,
so name that surface; it is unchanged in 1.3.0.

ADR-0042 repeated the chord history in both the deprecation note and the
background, so keep it only in the note.
