Fonts

[Gerfiron]

The question is whether there will be a substitution of fonts not SDF, but regular ttf/otf. so how are there games that use both options?

[djethino]

Yes, drop any .ttf or .otf into the mod's fonts/ folder and it shows up in Translation Parameters at the end with [Custom] tag.
It works for both TextMeshPro (SDF) and regular UI text, so games that mix the two are covered.

Behind that, the mod takes one of two paths, and both start from your .ttf/.otf file:

• Unity renders it — the mod hands the font file to the engine, which draws the text itself. This is always the case for regular UI text.
• The mod renders it — when Unity can't (many IL2CPP games strip the functions needed to load a font at runtime), or for a TextMeshPro font from the fonts/ folder, the mod reads the .ttf/.otf itself, draws the glyphs and builds the SDF atlas that TextMeshPro needs. This runs in the background and is cached, so only the first launch takes a while.

So games that mix TextMeshPro and regular text are covered with the same font file.

for UI.Text a game restart is mandatory after adding a font, unfortunately, I can't inject the font at runtime for this, for SDF, there is not this problem because it's generated at runtime and doesn't depends on the list that unity construct at launch.

If a font doesn't apply in your game, tell me which one and send the log.

But nothing changes in the UI.

[djethino]

I reproduced it with v0.14.1, the problem is with TextMesh 3D fonts, it was created but never applied.
It's normally already fixed, it will be in the next version.
I'll ping you when it's out.

[Gerfiron]

Direct replacement of FPN1_1.ttf with Flame-Bold.otf in sharedassets0.assets yielded the desired result.

[djethino]

I take some time for the release, because this part is in a more larger part. I'm doing a complete rewrite of the complex script texts like arabic, hindi, thai, hebrew, ... and I use this task to review all the fonts replacements and to create a bench with multiple unity versions to avoid regression in the future.

[djethino]

the release is done. I hope it will be okay, let me know.
