Summary

  • Backend and MCP server deploys write the deployed version to IMAGE_TAG / MCP_IMAGE_TAG in the server's .env, after checking the new container runs the expected image. The line is replaced when present and appended otherwise.
  • docs/deployment.md describes the new step.

Why

The deploys set the tag explicitly but never stored it, so the .env values went stale. A docker compose command run by hand on the server then resolved the service to an older image. Falling back to latest would not help either: deploys pull versioned tags, so the local latest image is not kept current.

Testing

Ran the update snippet against a sample .env: it replaces an existing value, appends a missing one, leaves similarly named keys alone and keeps the file mode.

The deploys pass the image tag explicitly but never stored it, so the
IMAGE_TAG / MCP_IMAGE_TAG values in the server's .env went stale and a
docker compose command run by hand could start an older image. Write
the version to .env once the new container is running.
