Update (2026-11-05): main's red CI was fixed independently by #649, which merged the same three test repairs as this PR's first commit. main has been merged in (50a5b5f, conflicts resolved to main's ready_mock plus this branch's superset scan_edge_tests). Against main, this PR now only adds the review fixes below and their tests:

87 tests pass. #642 is now fully superseded by #649.

Why

Follow-up to #628. That PR merged while CodeRabbit's bot-generated tests were failing, so build · test · clippy (idris-dependents) has been red on main since 2026-10-27. This PR turns it green and closes the review findings that were still open when #628 merged.

Commit 1: repair the tests that broke main

All three are the defects CodeRabbit itself flagged in its last review of #628:

  • scan_tests::ready_mock was missing the new responses field (E0063, so the target did not compile). It now takes the remaining fields from ..Mock::default().
  • The report JSON contract test lacked skippedUrls.
  • The "hard failure" test used 404, which feat(idris-dependents): read-only audit for external Idris2 dependents #628's own change now skips by design. The hard failure uses 500, and the 404 skip is asserted separately: empty rows, with the URL listed in skipped_urls.

This commit is green on its own: 79 tests, fmt and clippy, checked in an isolated worktree.

Commit 2: review findings from #628

Finding Source Fix
brief = "depends = proven reported proven Codex An unterminated string runs to EOF, so its contents are never read as package syntax
https://example.com/mirrors/github.com/<owner>/x counted as HIGH Codex GitHub must be the URL's host. Handles ports, userinfo, git+https and scp form
URL = … in .gitmodules was ignored Codex Keys matched case-insensitively, as git config does
url = ../../<owner>/repo.git was ignored Codex Relative URLs resolved against the dependent repository, as git does. Climbing past the host returns nothing
HTTP errors said only HTTP 401 CodeRabbit A bounded body excerpt (≤300 chars) is appended, e.g. "Bad credentials"

Each fix has a regression test, and all 5 fail on the previous source (checked by running them against main's src/).

Verification

  • cargo build --locked --all-targets ✅ · cargo test --locked: 84 passed ✅ · cargo clippy -D warnings ✅ · cargo fmt --check ✅
  • Idris2 oracle, re-run because the lexer changed: idris2 agrees on all 1003 cases (Idris2 0.8.0-d87ae51c3, 3 fixtures and 1,000 generated files)

Not in this PR

  • A live scan against GitHub still needs a token with code-search access. This session's token is repo-scoped.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Dependency scans now recognize GitHub repository references only when GitHub is the URL host, and can resolve relative submodule URLs using repository context.
    • Error messages for failed requests include a trimmed excerpt of the response body.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Unterminated quoted strings are now consumed through the end of the file, preventing their contents from being interpreted as separate tokens.
    • Missing files (HTTP 404) are reported as skipped; other unsuccessful responses continue to fail the scan.

Generated by Claude Code

#628 merged with CodeRabbit's generated tests failing, so
`build · test · clippy (idris-dependents)` has been red on main since:
- scan_tests: `ready_mock` omitted the new `responses` field (E0063);
  fill the rest from `Mock::default()`.
- scan_edge_tests: the report JSON contract lacked the new `skippedUrls`.
- scan_edge_tests: the "hard failure" case used 404, which is now skipped
by design; use 500 for the hard failure and assert the 404 skip
(empty rows, URL listed in `skipped_urls`) separately.

…rom #628

Each fix has a regression test that fails on the previous code:
- ipkg: an unterminated string now runs to end of input, so
  `brief = "depends = proven` no longer reports `proven` (Codex).
- refs: GitHub must be the URL's host, not a path segment, so
  `https://example.com/mirrors/github.com/<owner>/x` is not a HIGH
match; ports, userinfo and `git+https` are handled (Codex).
- refs: `.gitmodules` keys are case-insensitive (`URL =`), as in git
  config (Codex).
- refs/scan: relative submodule URLs (`../../<owner>/repo.git`) are
resolved against the dependent repository, as git does (Codex).
- scan: HTTP errors include a bounded excerpt of GitHub's response body,
  e.g. "Bad credentials" for a 401 (CodeRabbit).

Walkthrough

The PR updates Idris dependency parsing and GitHub reference matching. It resolves relative .gitmodules URLs using the dependent repository and includes response-body details in HTTP errors. Tests cover raw-content 404 reporting and related scan behavior.

Changes: Idris dependency discovery

Layer / File(s) Summary
Dependency parsing and GitHub URL matching
idris-dependents/src/ipkg.rs, idris-dependents/src/refs.rs, idris-dependents/tests/rules_tests.rs
Unterminated strings consume the remaining input as string content. GitHub references match only when the URL host is GitHub and the path contains an owner and repository. Regression tests cover these parsing and URL cases.
Relative submodule resolution
idris-dependents/src/refs.rs, idris-dependents/src/scan.rs, idris-dependents/tests/rules_tests.rs, idris-dependents/README.adoc
The .gitmodules parser resolves relative URLs against the superproject when context is provided. The scanner passes the dependent repository name to the resolver. Tests cover resolution, URL-key casing, and missing or invalid context. The README classification text describes host matching and relative URL resolution.
Raw-content response handling
idris-dependents/src/scan.rs, idris-dependents/tests/scan_edge_tests.rs, idris-dependents/tests/scan_tests.rs
Non-success response errors include up to 300 trimmed characters of the response body when available. Tests cover HTTP 404 skip reporting, HTTP 500 response details, report output, and mock defaults.

CI status: build · test · clippy (idris-dependents) is ✅ green here, and so are the required CodeQL and scan / gitleaks. The three red checks also fail on main (64ebfbe) with the same output, and this PR doesn't touch .github/:

Check Cause (same on main) Fix
governance / Allowlist Preflight 4 reusable workflows moved to metadatastician/standards/...@75bd599 in #638/#639, and the allowlist checked out at that same pin doesn't list metadatastician/* Exists upstream: hyperpolymath/standards HEAD allows metadatastician/standards/.github/workflows/*@* (since 8d1a2aa). Bumping the pin in governance.yml, hypatia-scan.yml, scorecard.yml and mirror.yml with actions.lock regenerated is a governance change, so it's left out of this PR
governance / Language / package anti-pattern policy Flags pre-existing scripts/audit-*.py and tests/*-test.py as banned_language_file None yet. Needs an exemption or a port of those scripts
governance / Validate Hypatia Baseline The same 16 unfiltered findings as on main None yet

Note that #642 contains the same three test-fixture fixes as this PR's first commit. Whichever merges first, the other needs a trivial conflict resolution.

…o like git

Codex on #644: git resolves a relative submodule URL against the whole
remote URL, so from alice/app `../../../github.com/hyperpolymath/proven.git`
is https://github.com/hyperpolymath/proven.git; the resolver stopped at
the owner/repo boundary and dropped it. Model the remote as
github.com/<owner>/<repo> so `../` can climb into the host part.

The new test's expected values are what `git submodule init` (git 2.43)
registers for a superproject with origin https://github.com/alice/app.git.

…epositories

Codex on #644: `https://github.com/hyperpolymath/?tab=repositories` (or
`/#about`) made `?tab=repositories` the "repository", so an org-page URL
in pack.toml or .gitmodules counted as a HIGH-confidence dependent.
Strip the query and fragment before splitting owner/repo.

CodeRabbit on #644: `https://evil.example#@github.com/hyperpolymath/proven`
took everything before the first `/` as the authority, so the host after
`@` read as github.com. Per RFC 3986 the authority ends at the first `/`,
`?` or `#`; a URL whose authority is not followed by `/` names no
repository. Query/fragment text in the path was already dropped (9eccde1).

#649 landed the same three test-fixture repairs as this branch's first
commit. Conflicts resolved to main's ready_mock and this branch's
scan_edge_tests (a superset: it also asserts the 404 skip and the HTTP
error body), so against main this PR now only adds.
