feat(lattice): TINI over a Lattice record and down-closed observers, with a certified laws census - #10
Conversation
…lock - .github/workflows/proofs.yml: Debian 13 container (digest-pinned), agda-bin=2.6.4.3-1+b2, actions/checkout SHA-pinned; runs scripts/check.sh. Pattern: choreographic-types. - scripts/check.sh: refuses any Agda but 2.6.4.3; scans the trusted base for postulates; adds -W error; requires each rejection to fail at or after its `invalid` line. - Justfile: `just test` runs the proof gate instead of failing as an unwired template recipe. - actions.lock: onboard proofs.yml; record the actions/checkout SHA pin with its release tag as `ref` (job setup refuses a tagged action whose record repeats the SHA, per choreographic-types' lock note of 2026-10-16); repair the drift already on main, where pages.yml and sonarqube.yml use haskell-actions/setup@v2.12.1 and SonarSource/sonarqube-scan-action@v8.3.0 but the lock still named v2.12.0 and v8.2.2. scripts/check-lock-sync.sh was red on main (a75798a) for exactly those two rows; it is green here. …losed observers - SecretTypes.Lattice.Record: the Lattice record, defined once (Carrier, _⊑_, _⊔_, ⊥ₗ, ⊑-trans, ⊔-upper₁, ⊔-upper₂), with Observer (a down-closed set of labels) and `principal o` (sees ℓ iff ℓ ⊑ o, the only use of ⊑-trans). - SecretTypes.Typing.Generic: Volpano–Smith rules over the operations and a labelling `label : Var → Carrier`; no laws. - SecretTypes.Noninterference.Statement: observer agreement s ≈[ sees ] s' and the TINI statement, over the operations. - SecretTypes.Noninterference.Generic: `tini V : TINI (sees V)` for every Lattice and every down-closed observer V. The branch split needs no decidability: agreement is stable (Nat equality is decidable) and excluded middle holds under double negation. - The two-point lattice is the instance `two-point`; Typing and Noninterference re-derive `tini`, `eval-low` and `confine` there with their original statements, at the principal observer L. Witness and tests/reject are unchanged and still check / still fail with L != H. - Prelude gains ⊥-elim, Dec (same constructors as Lintel's copy), _≟_ on naturals, dec-stable and ¬¬-dec. Lang loses `label` (it moved to Typing) and gains `read`. Refs #9 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_017yYi5JxzXZs6nz1ZSForfP
… → TESTED) - scripts/minimal-laws.sh (pattern: choreographic-types K-4): generic TINI typechecks against tests/minimal-laws, a Lattice.Record with only ⊔-upper₁, ⊔-upper₂ and observer down-closure; it checks the census record against the real one (which adds exactly ⊑-trans); removing any census field is refused with "Not in scope" for that field. - SecretTypes.Countermodels: for each law, a structure keeping the others and the unchanged typing rules in which a well-typed program leaks (`refutes : ¬ TINI _`): NoUpper₁, NoUpper₂, NoDownClosure, NoTrans. - The census refutes two points of the hypothesis in #9: neither ⊥ ⊑ x nor decidable ⊑ is used. - PROOF-STATUS: N-6 ASSUMED → TESTED; new N-7 (TINI over the record, PROVEN) and N-8 (each law necessary, PROVEN); the fragment now states the parametric setting; "arbitrary lattices" leaves Open. CI stays DESIGNED until the first green run. - proofs.yml and `just test` run the certificate. …row → TESTED Both failed at job setup on main and on this PR with "Unable to resolve action actions/checkout@3d3c42e…: invalid lockfile pin". The cause is in the called repository: hyperpolymath/standards' own actions.lock at da2c748 records that checkout pin with the SHA repeated as `ref`, which job setup now refuses. At 75bd5994 it records `ref: 'v7.0.1'`; this is the pin choreographic-types moved to for the same failure. The callers pass no secrets, which both reusables at 75bd5994 accept. actions.lock: the standards@75bd5994 record lists the actions its two reusables use (cache, checkout, upload-artifact, setup-beam, codeql-action), each with a SHA-keyed record carrying its release tag as `ref`. check-lock-sync.sh stays green. governance, mirror, rust-ci and scorecard still pin da2c748 and are left for a separate change. PROOF-STATUS: CI DESIGNED → TESTED, citing proofs.yml run 39289501788 (green on f149e08). NoTrans drops ⊑-trans, and with it the down-closure of "flows to o"; it does not keep the other census laws, so it is not a generic-TINI countermodel like the other three. N-8 and the Countermodels header now say so: ⊔-upper₁, ⊔-upper₂ and down-closure are each necessary for generic TINI; ⊑-trans is necessary for principal observers. No proof changes. (CodeRabbit review on #10.) scripts/minimal-laws.sh: name positional parameters in fields/stage (SonarCloud shell rule). Behaviour unchanged; every negative control still bites (wrong Agda version, an accepted fixture, a fixture failing for the wrong reason, a real record that adds a law). src/SecretTypes/*.agdai were committed in 833715c. They are build output: every gate run rewrote them (scripts/check.sh uses --ignore-interfaces, so they were never read), which left a checked-out tree dirty after `just test`, and they had gone stale against the sources. Untrack them and ignore *.agdai everywhere (the old rule covered verification/proofs/agda only). The files stay on disk locally; nothing reads them. Owner decision 2026-10-19. …rams cannot build the link (L-7) (#13) ## Summary This PR instantiates secret-types' generic TINI, from [hyperpolymath/secret-types#10](hyperpolymath/secret-types#10) (landed as `ccdcb3ec42792337a9ab6047e1f99de9d20a4f96`), at Lintel's reader-set lattice. It extends TINI to coalitions and proves that a typed program cannot build the address ⊔ qname link. Closes #12. Refs #11 (LNT-01). **Two claims decisions are left to the owner (doctrine 4: no claim is final until you sign it off):** 1. **The A-1 wording.** #12 says this is your call. The proposed text is in the README A-1 row, and `collusion-gap` backs it. 2. **The exact L-7 statement.** See "L-7 as stated" below. ## Changes Three commits. Each passes `scripts/check.sh` on its own; I checked each one in a clean worktree. 1. **L-6** (`ce4d1d3`) - Re-pins secret-types to `ccdcb3e`. - Deletes Lintel's local `Dec`. It is a hard error ("Multiple definitions of Dec") against the new Prelude. - Adds `Lintel.Instance`: `reader-sets : Lattice` (upstream record, Lintel's fields), `field-label` (`lo` is the address, `hi` the query name), and `tini-per-role`. - README: L-6 goes OPEN → PROVEN. L-3 now cites the certified census (`⊔-upper₁`, `⊔-upper₂`, `⊑-trans`) instead of the old two-point laws, which are kept as facts. 2. **Coalitions** (`46a374a`) - `_∪_`: the union of two down-closed observers, over any `Lattice`. - `coalition r r'` and `tini-coalition`. - `collusion-gap`: proxy plus target see `address` and `qname`, each by a permitted flow, but not `address ⊔ qname`. This is a proof of why A-1 survives. - A-1 narrows to the link's confinement (L-4, L-7). 3. **L-7** (`4611a6a`) - Adds `Lintel.Composition`: - `Writes x k c`: c assigns to x a value that depends on k. k is the expression's label joined with every enclosing guard, so implicit flows count. - `writes-flow`. - `link-written-to-client`: for any labelling, a write that depends on both fields lands only where the client alone may read. - `no-link-written`: with Lintel's two fields, no typed command writes the link anywhere. - Fixtures: - `tests/reject/ProgramLink` (explicit, `lo ≔ plus (var lo) (var hi)`) and `ProgramLinkImplicit` (lo rewritten under a guard on hi). Each fails only at the proxy bit (log: `true != false … when checking that the expression ⊒-true has type by-proxy …`). - `tests/accept/ProgramField` and `ProgramFieldGuarded` are the matched positive controls: same shape and witnesses, without the query name. ### L-7 as stated - **What it covers.** Every assignment reachable in a typed command of secret-types' fragment: two variables, `skip`, `≔`, `﹔`, `ifz`, `while`. - **What it does not cover:** - Termination channels (TINI is termination-insensitive; see secret-types N-5). - n variables. - Collusion (A-1). - **Mutation experiment.** I relabelled `lo` as client-only. `no-link-written` then fails to typecheck, and the link-building program becomes typeable. So the corollary rests on the field labelling, as stated. `link-written-to-client` is the labelling-independent part. ## RSR Quality Checklist ### Required - [x] Tests pass: the Agda proof gate (`just proof-check-lintel`, real pinned fetch) is green. It reports `PASS: Lintel proofs, 4 positive control(s), 4 expected rejection(s), negative control`. **`just test` was not green locally.** Its idris2 and zig template steps exit 127 because those tools aren't installed here, and this PR touches neither `src/interface/abi` nor `ffi`. - [ ] Code is formatted: there is no Agda formatter in the repo. I followed the existing style by hand. - [x] Linter is clean: `-W error` is on, with no warnings. - [x] No banned language patterns (Agda and AsciiDoc only). - [x] No `unsafe` blocks. - [x] No banned functions. There are no postulates, and everything is `--safe --without-K --no-libraries --double-check`. - [x] SPDX headers on all new and modified source files. - [x] No secrets. ### As Applicable - [ ] Deed `(status)`/`(maturity)`: not touched. The deed's `fv` rationale still says "secret-types' noninterference at that lattice next". That is identity text, so I've left it for you. - [ ] `docs/status/ROADMAP.adoc`: not touched. It has no L-6 or L-7 entries. - [x] Documentation: the README proof-status table and its intro are updated. ## Testing - `just proof-check-lintel`, Agda 2.6.4.3: green. - Each commit checked in its own clean worktree: green. - Mutation experiment above. ## Cross-repo follow-ups - `_∪_` is generic over any `Lattice` and probably belongs upstream in `SecretTypes.Lattice.Record`. secret-types' PROOF-STATUS lists coalition observers under Open. Doctrine 14 (solutions at source) favours an upstream PR, after which Lintel would import it. I kept it here so this PR doesn't wait on secret-types. --- _Generated by [Claude Code](https://claude.ai/code/session_017yYi5JxzXZs6nz1ZSForfP)_ <!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> <!-- coderabbit-ai-generated:v1 --> ## Summary by CodeRabbit - **Documentation** - Expanded proof-status notes to cover termination-insensitive noninterference for programs over both fields, including per-role and coalition guarantees. - Clarified restrictions on writing values that depend on both fields, and distinguished coalition noninterference from link confinement. - Documented the proxy-and-target coalition’s ability to see each field individually, but not their combined value. - Updated the documented proof-check revision. <!-- end of auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> --------- Co-authored-by: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>

Summary
Implements #9. This repo now defines the
Latticerecord once, states typing and TINI over it, and keeps the two-point lattice as its first instance, so metadatastician/lintel can instantiate the record at its reader-set lattice.Owner decisions taken before the build:
The census refutes two points of the hypothesis in #9. Generic TINI uses only
