Summary

  • Add .github/workflows/release.yml. A pushed v* tag:
    • fails if the tag is not v + the fleetdeck version in Cargo.toml,
    • builds aarch64-apple-darwin and x86_64-apple-darwin (cross-compiled) on macos-latest, x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu on ubuntu-latest and aarch64-unknown-linux-gnu on ubuntu-24.04-arm,
    • packages each as fleetdeck-<version>-<target>.tar.gz with the binary, README.md and LICENSE,
    • writes SHA256SUMS and creates the GitHub Release with generated notes.
  • A PR that changes release.yml runs the version check, the builds and the packaging, but not the publish job. This PR runs it.
  • Remove the release job from ci.yml. It only uploaded workflow artifacts, and the Release workflow replaces it.
  • Rewrite the README install section: download from Releases with the checksum check, or cargo install.

Test plan

  • CI is green, and the Release workflow builds and packages all four targets on this PR.
  • After merge, push v0.1.0 on the merge commit. Check that the Release has four archives and SHA256SUMS, and that the macOS arm64 binary runs fleetdeck --version.

Add a Release workflow that checks the tag against the Cargo.toml
version, builds fleetdeck for macOS (arm64, x86_64) and Linux
(x86_64, arm64), packages each target with README and LICENSE,
writes SHA256SUMS and creates the release with generated notes.
PRs that change the workflow build and package without publishing.

Drop the CI artifact job it replaces and document installing from
a release, with the checksum check, and with cargo install.
