The Facebook and Instagram apps on Android ship their own Chromium based WebView, which starts the cross-document view transition but never finishes it, leaving the page blank after navigating. The same issue was reported for Hyvä and the Shopify Horizon theme, see #30.
view-transitions.phtmlnow renders a small script directly after the@view-transitionstyle. In the Facebook, Messenger and Instagram in-app browser on Android (FBAN,FBAV,FB_IABorInstagramin the user agent) it inserts@view-transition { navigation: none; }after that style, which wins the cascade. The detection runs client side, since pages are served from the full page cache.Because the override is inserted right after the style of this module, it also applies on Hyvä, where the style of this module is rendered after the fix in the Hyvä default theme.
Tested in Chrome with an Android Facebook in-app browser user agent:
