Summary

A section's role and layout are now set by attributes in braces, not by its heading name:

Braces Section
None A section in a band of columns
{.wide} A full-width section, a band of its own
{.stats} The strip of figures (was ## Stats)
{.abstract} The introduction box (was ## Abstract)
{.summary} The banner and closing blocks (was ## Summary)
{.references} The references list, under its own heading text (was ## References)
{cols=3} Gives its band of columns three columns
{.flow}, {colour=} As before. colour= now also colours an abstract's box and a summary's banner
  • No heading name is special any more. ## Stats, ## Abstract, ## Summary and ## References are ordinary sections. Backwards compatibility was not wanted.
  • Every part is placed where it is in the file. A stats strip, abstract, summary or references list is full width wherever it is written, so a second strip can sit halfway down. Before, they were pulled to fixed places at the top and bottom.
  • {cols=N} lifts the one-column-count limit. One band can have two columns and the next three. A band that asks for two different counts is an error.
  • Other checks:
    • A heading with two roles, or a cols= that isn't a whole number, is an error.
    • Layout attributes on a role section, or on a wide one, are ignored with a warning.
    • split now needs exactly one band of columns.
  • Examples: all four posters use the new form. The sensor node poster gains a band of three product variants under its two-column band, to show cols=.
  • Docs: the posters chapter's page structure section is rewritten around the attributes, the writing guide is updated, and FR-160 is added.

Tests

  • 1339 passed, 20 skipped. New tests cover file-order placement, cols= per band, the old names now being ordinary sections, and the attribute mistakes.
  • The browser tests pass.
  • ruff check . passes, and so do both --strict lint runs.
  • All four example posters build as one-page PDFs.

Generated by Claude Code

{.stats}, {.abstract}, {.summary} and {.references} replace the headings
Stats, Abstract, Summary and References, which are now ordinary sections. The
heading text is the writer's own, and every part is placed where it is in the
file, so a stats strip can sit halfway down. {cols=N} on a section gives its
band its own number of columns, so one band can have two and the next three.
colour= also colours an abstract's box and a summary's banner. The example
posters, the tests and both poster chapters use the new form.
