Releases are Apple silicon only today. macOS 15 still runs on many Intel Macs, and Snapcap has no Apple-silicon-only code, so a universal build should be possible.
What's there
scripts/build-app.sh already has an experimental UNIVERSAL=1 switch that passes --arch arm64 --arch x86_64 to SwiftPM (the bin path changes in that mode).
.github/workflows/release.yml builds without it, packaging/homebrew/snapcap.rb has depends_on arch: :arm64, and scripts/install.sh refuses to install on Intel.
What's needed
- Make
UNIVERSAL=1 ./scripts/build-app.sh produce a working universal Snapcap.app (lipo -archs shows x86_64 arm64).
- Test it on a real Intel Mac running macOS 15+: onboarding, recording a display with camera + mic + system audio, the editor, and export. The export uses Core Image on Metal, so check colors and the camera bubble in the exported MP4.
- Turn it on in the release workflow, drop the arm64 restriction from the cask and the install script, and update the README.
Done when an Intel Mac user can install the latest release with Homebrew or the install script and record + export successfully.
