Summary

I make a reviewed HTTPS publication plan reject a changed Git configuration profile before credential activation or any endpoint probe. I also make credential preflight discard both output streams and use only Git's return code. The source reviewer reproduced both prior failures with controlled, provider-free tests.

Boundary

  • Owning surface: Versionkeeping's publication executor, credential preflight, and checkpointing procedure.
  • Issue: #4, as a partial source correction; its live-provider acceptance remains open.
  • The guarded HTTPS route requires VERSIONKEEPING_GIT_CONFIG_PROFILE=hardened before planning and throughout execution. host-compatible remains the default, outside that contract. Remote-ref deletion and concurrent configuration or executable mutation receive no new assurance.
  • Release, publication, installation, or live-qualification authority: none.

Provenance and compatibility

I preserve the reviewed HTTPS changes from cb67369 and the later check=False test assertion, while retaining current main's publication-authority instructions and Windows adapter changes. The regenerated Versionkeeping content lock covers the combined source, and the Kit definition pins its digest. Every other member identity and field matches integration base e5b06b4. I preserve #80 as historical input.

Validation

The published PR head is 69c87fec. All 12 required checks pass for this commit. The current hosted source-boundary, Versionkeeping, native credential-provider, and derived-lock checks establish the validation items below. Earlier results are retained separately with their original limits.

The prior revision 2b253b4 has the same complete source tree as tested integration bd55513. I retain that integration's results:

  • python3 -B -m unittest -v tests.test_validate_provingkit: 94 passed.
  • python3 -B -m unittest tests.test_validate_versionkeeping: 62 passed.
  • The frozen-v2 byte-identical projection check and python3 -B scripts/validate_versionkeeping.py ., python3 -B scripts/validate_source_skill_disposition.py ., and python3 -B scripts/validate_provingkit.py .: passed.

On that prior revision, python3 -B scripts/validate_provingkit.py . passed again to check the changed ancestry, and git diff --check cebab41...2b253b4 passed. The full suites were not rerun then.

At the earlier revision 60d231b, the 58 publication-adapter tests, 62 Versionkeeping validator tests, python3 -B scripts/validate_versionkeeping.py ., and git diff --check pass. An independent runtime review confirms that the added assertion rejects check=True on either preflight call while preserving the output-disposal checks. The production source is unchanged by this test correction.

The retained provider-free selection at cb67369f0426c040700e69324a311a9b0bf92cdc had 164 selected, 163 passed, and one platform skip. Seven methods using a real provider or loopback TLS fixture were excluded. That selection was not rerun for this integration.

At the current integration 69c87fe, the Versionkeeping validator, its 63 validator unit tests, the source-disposition validator, and git diff --check pass. The documented writer regenerated the Versionkeeping content lock. Independent ordinary intent and structure reviews followed by distinct adjudication found no unresolved integration findings.

  • The Provingkit definition and repository exclusions pass.
  • Every affected member's focused tests and source validator pass.
  • Supported derived locks regenerate without a diff.

The original source review supports the preserved HTTPS changes within its historical scope. The current ordinary composition review has no unresolved findings and does not issue a new security verdict for the combined Windows implementation. Hosted results for the published revision are tracked in PR checks. Personal desktop-provider behavior remains unqualified.

Review checklist

  • The six Agent Plugin members remain independently identified, including Proseweaving.
  • Member manifests keep independent identities and versions.
  • Historical Linux or macOS inputs are not presented as current qualification.
  • This change creates no Provingkit release, tag, release-manifest instance, marketplace publication, or live installation.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Security

    • Credential preflight no longer exposes provider response details and accepts credentials based on the check’s success status.
    • The hardened profile remains available for guarded authenticated HTTPS publishing; the default host-compatible profile is outside that contract.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Publishing is blocked if the Git configuration profile changes after review, requiring a fresh plan and review.
    • Remote branch state remains unchanged when validation fails.
  • Documentation

    • Clarified profile selection, review requirements, credential handling, and limitations around remote-ref deletion.

📝 Walkthrough

The change documents Git profile requirements, checks the reviewed profile before publication, and changes HTTPS credential preflight to rely on process status without capturing output. It adds regression tests and updates content-lock hashes.

Changes: Git publication profile and execution guards

The instructions identify host-compatible as the default and outside the guarded authenticated HTTPS contract. They require hardened mode for that contract and describe profile-specific behavior, credential preflight, and remote-ref deletion scope.
Runtime profile guard and credential preflight

Execution raises REVIEWED_CONFIG_CHANGED when the current profile differs from the reviewed profile. Credential preflight redirects stdout and stderr to DEVNULL and uses the process return code to determine availability. Tests cover the profile guard and preflight behavior.
Content-lock synchronization

Possibly related issues

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 69c87

No actionable issue remains from this review; the change is mergeable after normal checks.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 69c87

The change rejects profile drift before credential use and avoids retaining credential output. No new privilege expansion was identified, but cross-platform credential behavior remains unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — Each execution targets a reviewed endpoint and branch, but the underlying credential may authorize additional repositories according to its existing provider permissions. The reviewed branch binding is not credential privilege reduction. No new credential authority or broader publication target was established by the base-to-head changes.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The new comparison prevents a changed execution profile from reaching credential activation or subsequent remote probes under the previously reviewed plan. Credential-preflight output no longer crosses into captured Python stdout/stderr buffers; provider selection and noninteractive execution controls remain in place.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Selected helper configuration is held in the repository object's subprocess environment rather than written to repository configuration. Context exit removes the temporary empty-hooks directory. External provider caches remain outside this cleanup ownership; these lifecycle controls are unchanged by the PR.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the template's sections (Summary, Boundary, Provenance and compatibility, Validation, Review checklist) and gives substantive, specific content on the behavior change, scope, and validation. It is not vague or off-topic. Gaps remain. The Boundary section names the owning surface and issue #4, but the 'Issue' line describes a partial correction, and the template asks for the authorizing issue, so the link to that authority is only partly clear. The Provenance section names the source commit and the retained alias #80 as historical input, which meets the template. The Validation section has inconsistent evidence. The description cites three different revisions (69c87fe, 2b253b4, 60d231b) and retains results from earlier integrations, and it says the full suites were not rerun on the prior revision. The checklist items are checked even though the current-revision evidence is partly inherited from earlier revisions. The Validation items for the current head are not stated with per-check results. The description also mixes the PR head, the integration commit, and the prior revision without a clear statement of which commit the reported results cover. The objectives text reports checks on 60d231b, while the description says 69c87fe is the published head, so the commit under review is ambiguous. The description is mostly complete, so the check passes, but the validation evidence should be clarified.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 16.67% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 12 functions across 4 files. (4 skipped: 4 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

A rabbit checks the profile twice,
Then keeps the credential stream concise.
If plans and settings no longer agree,
Publication waits before the next decree.
The hashes are fresh, the tests now show,
Which paths may pass and which must stop.

RetriggerConfidence Score: 5/5

Safe to merge: profile drift is rejected before credentials, endpoint probes, and pushes can run.

What we checked:

  • Created a real temporary Git publication flow configured with the hardened profile and executed it against the instrumented HTTPS endpoint. T-Rex
  • Observed the flow returned REVIEWED_CONFIG_CHANGED with push_attempted: false, boundary_events: [], and the remote topic SHA remained unchanged. T-Rex
  • Noted that the profile drift check occurs before credential activation and remote default-branch probing, and that the matching test covers the same boundary assertions. T-Rex
  • Verified via code and tests that the same drift boundaries are instrumented and that no events are produced, as shown by the execution and test references. T-Rex
Summary

This change hardens authenticated HTTPS publication by rejecting reviewed configuration-profile drift before credential activation, endpoint probing, or push execution. It also prevents credential-preflight output from entering the executor and updates the publication contract, tests, and Versionkeeping release identities.
