What and why

Closes the CI and test gaps listed in the trackers. Refs #371, #373.

  • Extension zip: the build job keeps pangular-inspector-extension.zip as the chrome-extension artifact for 14 days.
  • Windows: a windows job runs pnpm test:devtools on windows-latest. This turned up a real bug: the component, signal, provider, pipe, NgRx, forms, server-route and template-lint scans reported file names with backslashes on Windows. They now use forward slashes, like the route and Analog scans (relativeFile() in rpc/source-scan.ts).
  • Coverage: pnpm test:coverage writes v8 coverage for the package and the panel. A coverage job uploads it as an artifact. There is no threshold yet and the job doesn't block.
  • Axe on the extension: pnpm test:axe:extension runs axe on the extension panel page in all six of its connection states, plus the connected panel. Each runs in dark and light at 1280 and 360 px. It runs in the axe job.
  • Mobile overlays: a headless harness (native-harness.ts) and smoke tests start the NativeScript, Angular Native and Capacitor overlays without a device.
  • Real-extension e2e: pnpm e2e:extension loads the unpacked extension in headless Chromium and opens its DevTools panel. It checks that the panel connects and that the Components tab lists App. It runs in the weekly Panel views job.

How it was verified

  • pnpm commit:check
  • pnpm format:check
  • pnpm typecheck
  • pnpm test:devtools and pnpm test:panel: the changed scan, skills and lint tests pass (424/424), and so do the native and Capacitor tests (142/142). A full local run had 3 timeouts in files this branch doesn't touch, under heavy machine load; each of those files passes on its own.
  • Docs updated (development.md, chrome-extension.md) and pnpm docs:build passes
  • pnpm test:axe and pnpm test:axe:extension (28/28). With the iframe title and the Retry text removed, every check fails.
  • pnpm e2e:extension (8/8). It fails, as it should, when asked for a component that doesn't exist.

Notes for reviewers

  • The Windows job has not run on Windows yet. This PR is its first run. The symlink tests and vite-server.test.ts, which needs openssl, may need follow-ups.
  • The live-SSR axe pass (pnpm e2e:panel, 96 views in about 7.5 minutes, after a demo build) stays in the weekly job. It is too slow for every pull request.
  • @vitest/coverage-v8 is pinned exactly, since its peer range is the exact vitest version.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Source file paths now use consistent forward-slash formatting across platforms.
  • Tests
    • Added Chrome extension end-to-end and accessibility checks, native overlay smoke tests, and coverage reporting.
    • CI now tests on Windows and uploads test results and coverage reports; coverage failures do not block the workflow.
  • New Features
    • CI provides a downloadable Chrome extension package.
  • Documentation
    • Updated contributor guides with extension build, test, accessibility, and coverage instructions.

The store zip was only ever built by hand, so a broken extension-zip
script or a bundle that fails to package showed up at release time.
Run the zip step after the build job rebuilds extension/ui and keep
the result as the chrome-extension artifact for 14 days. It holds no
key.pem and nothing uploads it to the Chrome Web Store.
The component, signal, provider, pipe, NgRx, forms, server route and
template lint scans named files with relative(), which joins with a
backslash on Windows, while the route and Analog scans and the page
already report src/app/x.ts. The panel and the agent tools showed both
spellings, and the package tests that expect src/app.ts failed there.
Add relativeFile() and toPosixPath() to source-scan.ts and use them
for every file name a scan reports.
The CLI, the hub and the source scans run on Windows machines, but no
job ran the package tests there, so a path joined with / or reported
with \ only showed up in bug reports. Add a windows-latest job that
runs pnpm test:devtools, with Git Bash as the script shell because the
root prepare script needs a POSIX shell. Build the expected paths in
the skills install tests with join() and resolve(), since skillsTarget
returns native paths with a drive letter there.
Nothing showed which code the package and panel tests reach. Add
@vitest/coverage-v8, pinned to the installed vitest because its peer
range is exact, a coverage block in both vitest configs that writes
HTML, a JSON summary and lcov to dist/coverage, and a test:coverage
script. A new coverage job runs both suites with --coverage and keeps
the report for 14 days. It has no threshold and continue-on-error, so
the slower instrumented run never blocks a pull request; the build job
stays the test gate.
pnpm test:axe checks the panel as the hub and a static report serve it,
but never extension/panel.html: its status messages, buttons and the
frame that holds the committed extension/ui. Add
scripts/extension-axe.mjs, which serves extension/ over http with a
stand-in for the chrome APIs, waits for each status the panel bridge
shows before it connects, then serves the test:axe report on the same
origin and checks the connected panel in its frame, in both color
schemes at 1280 and 360 px. The axe job runs it as
pnpm test:axe:extension after pnpm test:axe.
…overlays

Each NativeScript and Angular Native test file built its own fake
devframe client and runtime globals, and nothing started all three
mobile overlays the same way. Add native-harness.ts with a shared fake
connectDevframe that records each session, the globals of a native
runtime (a WebSocket, a fetch for __connection.json and no DOM),
NativeScript views, Angular Native nodes and a Capacitor WebView with
its bridge. native-overlays-smoke.test.ts starts the NativeScript and
Angular Native overlays and the Capacitor collector in it, and checks
the first report, its page id and the clean-up on dispose.
No check ran the extension as Chrome runs it: devtools.js detecting
Angular, the panel bridge finding the server and extension/ui loading
for the inspected page. Add scripts/e2e-extension.mjs (pnpm
e2e:extension), which loads extension/ into Playwright's Chromium in
the new headless mode with DevTools opened on the app, selects the
Pangular Inspector panel through the DevTools front end over CDP, and
checks that the panel connects, shows the tabs and lists the App
component. The weekly Panel views job runs it against the same SSR
demo, in about ten seconds.

Workers Builds: angular-devtools fails on every PR: it is a leftover Cloudflare Worker build that this diff doesn't touch, and only the Cloudflare dashboard can remove it (#431). Not this PR's failure.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The change adds extension-panel accessibility and end-to-end checks, CI coverage and build artifacts, native overlay smoke tests, and forward-slash formatting for discovered source paths. It also updates tests to use platform-aware paths and permission checks.

Changes: Extension Validation and CI

Layer / File(s) Summary
Extension panel checks and workflow wiring
scripts/extension-axe.mjs, scripts/e2e-extension.mjs, package.json, .github/workflows/e2e.yml, apps/docs/src/content/contributing/chrome-extension.md, apps/docs/src/content/contributing/development.md
The axe script checks panel states across themes and viewport widths. The E2E script checks the extension panel in Chromium DevTools. Package commands and the E2E workflow run these checks and collect results. Contributor guides describe the checks.
Coverage, CI jobs, and extension artifact
.github/workflows/ci.yml, app/vitest.config.ts, packages/devtools/vitest.config.ts, package.json, apps/docs/src/content/contributing/chrome-extension.md, apps/docs/src/content/contributing/development.md
CI creates and uploads an extension zip, runs coverage and Windows package tests, and uploads coverage reports. Vitest settings and contributor instructions describe these checks.

Native Overlay Smoke Tests

Layer / File(s) Summary
Native runtime harness and overlay checks
packages/devtools/src/__tests__/native-harness.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/native-overlays-smoke.test.ts, apps/docs/src/content/contributing/development.md
A shared test harness provides fake runtime objects and records RPC activity. Smoke tests check NativeScript and Angular Native component reports and disposal, plus Capacitor reports and stop behavior.

Cross-Platform Path Formatting and Tests

Layer / File(s) Summary
Normalized paths for source scans
packages/devtools/src/rpc/source-scan.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/forms-source.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/get-components.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/get-ngrx-store.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/get-pipes.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/get-providers.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/get-signals.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/pipe-lint.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/server-routes.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/template-lint.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/__tests__/source-scan.test.ts
RPC scanners now use shared relative-path formatting, and template paths use forward slashes. Tests cover path conversion.
Platform-aware test paths and permissions
packages/devtools/src/__tests__/*, packages/devtools/src/rpc/__tests__/*
Tests construct expected paths with platform utilities and use compatible permission, file URL, and real-path handling.

The new Windows job failed 18 tests, all in the tests rather than the
code:

- auth-guard and cli-auth set HOME for a throwaway home folder, but
homedir() reads USERPROFILE on Windows, so the token store went to
the runner's real home. Set USERPROFILE too. Windows has no owner-only
file modes, so the 0600/0700 checks now apply on POSIX only, and the
file still has to exist on both.
- open-in-editor expected the temp folder's 8.3 short name
(RUNNER~1), while the code returns the long real path. Resolve the
  fixture root with realpathSync.native.
- template-lint expected src\view.ts; scans report src/view.ts.
- capacitor-collector imported a D:\ path in a child process; ES
modules need a file URL there.
- mcp-print-config expected an unquoted --root; a path with \ is
  quoted for the shell.
- terminal-commands keyed its fake file system on /work/... while the
code joins with \; build the keys with join().
- vite-overlay took the stub's file name with split('/'); use
  basename().
- auth-guard matched authStoreDir against a POSIX path; compare with
  join() instead.
The coverage job failed on three package tests (cd-record-hints,
native-page-tools, untrusted-notice) that went over the default
5 second timeout: v8 instrumentation slows every test, and these boot
the server and call agent tools. Run both suites with
--testTimeout=20000 in the job and in pnpm test:coverage. The plain
test runs keep the default, so the build job still catches a test that
gets slow.

7 of 16 tasks
On Windows, the auth-guard and cli-auth store tests read an auth.json
with no token. The store holds an empty auth.json from startup and
devframe writes the token a moment later. On POSIX the wait for mode
0600 also waited for that write, since the file is only chmodded once
the token lands, but on Windows the mode is not checked, so the wait
ended as soon as the empty file existed. Wait for the token itself,
then check the mode where the platform has one.
