3D Drone Viewpoint Visualisation for Photogrammetry
University capstone project — Work in progress
ViewScope is an interactive desktop application for visualising and evaluating planned drone camera viewpoints for 3D photogrammetry.
The project aims to help users inspect drone flight plans and understand how camera placement affects coverage and reconstruction quality.
- Python
- Qt
- VTK
- NumPy
- Git / GitLab
ViewScope works with 3D spatial data including:
.objtriangle meshes representing the scene.plytarget/surface points.jsonplanned camera viewpoints.npzflyable-region data
The application visualises the scene and planned drone camera positions in an interactive 3D environment.
This is a team capstone project. My work has included:
- Implementing loading of planned viewpoints from
plan.json - Loading and verifying 185 planned drone viewpoints
- Visualising camera viewpoints in the 3D VTK scene
- Representing camera orientation and position using camera/frustum geometry
- Integrating viewpoint functionality with the existing Qt/VTK application
- Adding tests for viewpoint-loading functionality
- Working with Git feature branches and team-based version control
Work in progress
The project is currently under active development as part of my 2026 university capstone.
Current development includes interactive viewpoint inspection, camera selection, coverage visualisation, and reconstruction-quality analysis.
Users can select planned drone viewpoints in the 3D scene and inspect the camera's position, orientation, and corresponding first-person view.
The application visualises planned drone camera positions around the 3D scene, allowing the flight plan and scene coverage to be inspected interactively.
ViewScope is being developed as a team project. This repository is a portfolio showcase of the project and my individual contributions rather than a complete copy of the team's development repository.
