Building reliable software systems through thoughtful engineering.

About

I'm a Software Engineer based in Kisumu, Kenya, currently undertaking a software engineering apprenticeship at Zone01 Kisumu.

My work centers on backend engineering, distributed systems, infrastructure engineering, platform development, and DevSecOps. Before transitioning into software engineering, I worked in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing. That background continues to shape how I approach software design—viewing systems as interconnected networks, data as evolving state, and reliability as an architectural requirement rather than an implementation detail.

I enjoy designing software that prioritizes simplicity, resilience, maintainability, and long-term evolution over unnecessary complexity.

Engineering Interests

My engineering interests span the design and implementation of reliable software systems, with a particular focus on backend engineering, distributed systems, infrastructure engineering, platform development, DevSecOps, financial infrastructure, developer tooling, and open-source software. I enjoy exploring how these disciplines intersect to build systems that remain dependable under real-world conditions.

Technical Areas

My primary programming language is Go, complemented by experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, and SQL.

My work primarily involves designing backend services, RESTful APIs, concurrent systems, authentication and authorization workflows, and distributed architectures. Alongside application development, I work with modern infrastructure technologies including Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, and continuous integration and delivery pipelines.

I have practical experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and SQLite, and maintain a strong interest in secure software engineering, API security, infrastructure hardening, and DevSecOps practices that integrate security throughout the software development lifecycle.

Current Focus

I am currently focused on strengthening my expertise in backend engineering, distributed systems, and infrastructure engineering while building production-quality software that emphasizes reliability, maintainability, and security. Alongside implementation work, I continue investing in software architecture, technical documentation, open-source contributions, and long-term engineering practices that scale with evolving systems.

Engineering Philosophy

I believe good engineering is measured by the reliability of the systems it produces rather than the complexity of the technologies it uses.

Well-designed software should be understandable, maintainable, secure by design, and resilient under changing conditions. Thoughtful architecture, disciplined implementation, and continuous learning create systems that remain valuable long after the technologies surrounding them evolve.

Technology changes rapidly; sound engineering principles endure.
