A Windows driver and UI application for simulating geolocation data (latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, heading, and error radius).
This project builds upon the original FakeGPS driver created by Julian Kay. Original Driver Source: https://github.com/juliankay/FakeGPS
This driver simulates a hardware GPS sensor and provides data directly to the Windows Location API (Windows Sensor Class Extension).
✅ What IS affected (Will use the fake location):
- Built-in Windows Apps (Maps, Weather, Cortana, etc.)
- UWP (Universal Windows Platform) applications from the Microsoft Store.
- Web browsers (like Edge and Chrome) when a website prompts for location permissions and uses the HTML5 Geolocation API.
- Any desktop application that explicitly queries the Windows Geolocation APIs.
❌ What is NOT affected (Will NOT use the fake location):
- Websites or services that determine your location strictly based on your IP Address
- Network traffic and routing
- Applications that use their own custom IP-to-location.
- Windows 10 x64 or later.
- Test Mode Enabled: Since this is a custom driver, you must enable test mode by running
bcdedit /set testsigning onin an elevated command prompt and restarting your computer. Note: Test Mode may be incompatible with BitLocker and Secure Boot. - Administrator privileges are required for driver installation and toggling Test Mode.
- Visual Studio 2022 (or equivalent).
- Windows Driver Kit (WDK) 10.0 (required to build the UMDF driver).
- .NET SDK 8.0 (for the UI application).
- .NET Framework 4.5.2 Developer Pack (for legacy tests/utilities).
