🟠 Major · Accumulate counts across relationships in the same table. · store.ts:224-228

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick winAccumulate counts across relationships in the same table.
When a table has multiple relationships,
table.count ?? 0 + relationship.countkeeps the first non-nullish count instead of adding the next one. A later zero-count relationship also resets a positive table count to zero.DeleteBlockersTablethen hides that table, so users cannot inspect its remaining blockers. Add positive counts to the current total and preserve the total when a relationship has no blockers.Proposed fix
- table.count = table.count ?? 0 + relationship.count; + table.count = (table.count ?? 0) + relationship.count; resourceCount += relationship.count; } else { - table.count = 0; + table.count = table.count ?? 0; continue;🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Developer Testing Instructions
- Ensure the memory usage is significantly less than the implementation on
main, especially for databases with lots of Tree records and records referencing those tree records
Testing Instructions
- Ensure you can delete a record that has no DeleteBlockers
- Click on the DeleteButton and ensure the record is recorded
- Ensure the Linked Records button is not disabled and the record is accessible through Linked Records
- Click on the DeleteButton of the parent resource and ensure the indirect blocker is recorded
- Ensure you can delete the parent record
- Ensure the record is removed from the Fictitious Record Set and that counts get correctly updated for both the "Delete Blocked" dialog and Linked Records
- On a record with DeleteBlockers, ensure the DeleteBlocked dialog adapts to a smaller available space by resizing your browser window and DeleteBlocked dialog
- Ensure that newly created "institutional tables" (Collection, Discipline, Division) made through System Config and/or Guided Setup have consistent delete blocker behavior compared to
main - When Merging Records that have references, ensure the "Linked Records" button still works and allows you to view record references
- (Optional) Give feedback on UI/UX with any improvements you may have!
This looks amazing. On main I tried to delete a tree node that had 4.9 million determinations, it took ~1 minute to load and consumed ~12 Gib of ram. This PR loaded in seconds and required less than 1 Gib of ram.
The new UI is very nice, I like the buttons that are more than just text links, this makes it clear they are buttons. The linked record deletion/unlinking is much more intuitive and less clunky.
Overall from a UX standpoint this is a big improvement, and system resources are not being thrashed on bigger databases is a big deal too.

Everything looks good. Performance indeed has improved. For an agent with 2.8M linked records, it took about a minute to load on main whereas it loaded almost instantly in some seconds in this PR branch.
this adds a shared `sortTablesByCaption` helper and applies it across table pickers/lists (delete blockers, pick lists, query table editor, web links, and workbench helpers)

Primarily fixes #7515
Also fixes #2231, #5147, #4592
Description
The Problem
The previous implementation of Delete Blockers relied on Django's ORM (see ForeignKey.on_delete and Collector.collect) to collect all records that would prevent object deletion, and add them to a list.
The issue with this implementation is that some objects can have hundreds of thousands (or more) of references that must all be put into this list at the same time. (e.g., Agents through nearly all table's createdByAgent and modifiedByAgent relationships,TreeDef records or high-level Tree nodes, etc.).

specify7/specifyweb/backend/delete_blockers/views.py
Lines 41 to 44 in 41ee340
This led to a major scalability problem where the amount of memory required to hold all of the record references at once could easily exceed what the server can handle.
See #7515 (comment) for more information
The Solution
To fix the problem of having to hold all references in memory at once, the solution is to only hold a section/portion of total referenced records in memory at once, and let the requester (in most cases the frontend) page through the records to retrieve smaller sections.
This solution utilizes a type of Pagination called Keyset or Cursor Pagination. This type of pagination is far more performant than OFFSET pagination (which scales linearly based on the OFFSET amount).
Performance Improvements
There are significant improvements to both memory usage and computation time.
Specifically, I formally evaluated three large databases and compared the Delete Blocker performance from before and after these changes.
The procedure for each database and each version was as follows:
The data is found in the following table:
*Fetching of delete blockers timed out after 10 minutes when fetching blockers on the old version. The data here is the memory allocation up to the point of time out.
The actual database names are omitted for privacy, but some additional information on them is as follows:
User Experience
View Parent Resource Button
This was a miscellaneous feature added in the PR that also greatly helps Delete Blockers.
Records that are dependent on some other record will have a button appear on their DataEntry form called "View Parent Resource".
When clicked, the button will display the resource's parent.

Below is a more in-depth breakdown of the current UI:
Linked Records
Currently, Linked Records will only show you the "direct" Delete Blockers for a given record.
The "direct" delete blockers are blockers that directly reference the record (e.g., a field references an Agent through CreatedByAgent).
This is opposed to "indirect" DeleteBlockers, which are records that have blockers and will be deleted when the "parent" record is deleted.
Consider the following Agent record for the differences between Linked Records and Delete Blockers:
linked_records_vs_delete_blockers.mov
Due to #8418, Specify will try and delete all Taxon trees the Agent created. The tree itself blocks deletion through the Taxons' Determination records, so the tree records will be indirect delete blockers.
This distinction between LinkedRecords and DeleteBlockers means that a record can have no Linked Records, but still have its deletion be blocked (such as when a record only has indirect delete blockers):
no_linked_with_delete_blocked.mov
Small Screens
Delete Blockers and Linked Records has some responsive design for smaller screens or dialogs.
