MichalTorma wants to merge 3 commits into
Conversation
- Simplified the invite token validation logic to only clear the session token after successful user login. - Updated the response for expired or already-used invite links to redirect to the normal login page with a notice. - Enhanced the frontend to display an error dialog when an invite link has expired, using consistent messaging. This improves user experience by allowing reuse of invite links while providing clear feedback on their status.

The login component clears that parameter and displays a dismissible, localized error dialog. Failed invite validation in the SSO callback continues through normal SSO lookup. ChangesInvite sign-in

…vite links - Replaced hardcoded expired token message with a localized string from userText. - Ensured consistent messaging in the error dialog for expired invite links, improving user experience. This change enhances the clarity and maintainability of the code by utilizing localization for user-facing messages.

- Changed the message for expired invite links from 'Token expired.' to 'This invite link has already been used or has expired.' in the localization file. - This update enhances user understanding of the invite link status, aligning with recent improvements in error handling and messaging consistency.

Thanks so much, @MichalTorma, for contributing! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I still need to leave #5362 open because duplication is still possible, but this seems like a strong solution for common cases. We can explore enforcing this at a database level and auto-resolving existing cases in another PR.
When you create branches in the future, please use the naming convention issue-5362 so we can easily track which issue each branch aims to solve. This is much appreciated!
This improves user experience by allowing reuse of invite links while providing clear feedback on their status and does not treat expired invite links as showstopper - but redirects to login page (with error shown as toast)
This is not a full issue fix because it still allows for adding multiple records to
spuserexternalid(issue with compound constrains - would probably need hash of providerid or postgres... see here:specify7/specifyweb/backend/accounts/models.py

Instead, this fix circumvents the issue and treats most common pathway for the issue. That is: New user gets invite link > uses SSO to login and connect the account to SSO > next day user click on the same invite link and complains to admin that they can't log in > admin generates new invite link > user tries to log in with SSO but now there are locked out completly because of
MultipleObjectsReturnedIn this PR I propose treating expired (and used) links as a minor error and redirect user to standard login page. makes UX more friendly for new users
