Reverts #644

Unfortunately old state files may contain bad numbers in HASH_STATE_TYPE, likely due to OBJECTs not having been cleared and too much state of a HASH_OBJECT having been marshalled.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Behavior Changes
    • Hash-state values read from serialized data are no longer limited to three recognized states. Other values are accepted rather than rejected during unmarshalling.

📝 Walkthrough

HASH_STATE_TYPE_Unmarshal now returns the result of unmarshalling the type byte directly. It no longer validates the decoded value against specific hash state types or logs an error for other values.

Changes: Hash state type unmarshalling

HASH_STATE_TYPE_Unmarshal returns the byte-unmarshal result directly. It no longer rejects other decoded values with TPM_RC_BAD_PARAMETER or logs an error.

Older state files need to remain loadable, but an invalid type in an active sequence can cause hash processing to fail fatally. Protect active sequences before merging.

Validate invalid types in active sequence states.

HASH_STATE_TYPE_Unmarshal accepts every byte. HASH_OBJECT_Unmarshal stores that value in an occupied sequence object without validation. Later updates call CryptDigestUpdate, whose unknown-type branch invokes FAIL_VOID(FATAL_ERROR_INTERNAL).

Reject or reset invalid types in states used by active sequences. Preserve compatibility for stale inactive entries.
