[NEX Agent] Bounty payout system broken: 8 bounties, 1,560 USDC stuck in review — admin appr - #284
Conversation
…560 USDC stuck in
|
Someone is attempting to deploy a commit to the Vezures Team on Vercel. A member of the Team first needs to authorize it. |
📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThis change adds an admin-only bounty approval route and an RLS policy for bounty updates. The route validates authentication, admin authorization, and status values, then updates the bounty and returns structured responses. A deliverable records issue metadata and references the implementation. ChangesBounty approval flow
Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes Merge Risk: 🟠 High · up to The proposed approval flow is not wired to the service contract, rejects some valid administrators, and can mark a bounty as paid without settling or recording the funds. Approvals may therefore be unreachable or expose incorrect payout status, so the PR is not safe to merge until these issues are fixed. Sequence Diagram(s)sequenceDiagram

Full details: Title checkExplanation The title clearly identifies the bounty approval failure and stuck USDC payouts addressed by the pull request. The ending is truncated at “admin appr,” but the title remains sufficiently specific and related. Full details: Linked Issues checkExplanation The pull request adds admin authentication, an admin authorization check, an RLS policy, and a bounty approval route. It does not show configuration of admin signing keys, reconciliation of the eight affected bounties, SPL USDC transfers, ledger entries, or idempotent payout handling required by issue Resolution Configure the admin signing keys, implement and run reconciliation for all eight eligible bounties, set payoutTx, execute the SPL USDC transfers, write ledger entries, and prevent duplicate payments by checking payoutTx before each transfer. Verify the production approval flow after deployment. Full details: Docstring CoverageExplanation Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 1 functions across 1 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Move the handler into the deployed backend
This root-level file is neither a Next.js route nor part of any pnpm workspace, and repo-wide search finds no import of it, so neither PUT nor the SQL policy can execute in any build or deployment. The production bounty endpoint belongs to the separate backend; adding an unreferenced file to this client repository leaves all review-state bounties unchanged.

Release the escrow instead of only updating status
When this approval path is invoked, it only updates the bounties.status column and performs no payout or escrow settlement. Approval is defined by BountiesApi.approve as releasing the escrowed reward to the selected winner, so this implementation can report success—and even mark a bounty paid—while leaving the USDC stuck, which is the production failure this change is intended to resolve.

Transition approved bounties to the supported awarded state
The handler accepts approved and paid, but the shared BountyStatus contract in sdk/typescript/src/types/bounties.ts:6-12 supports open, judging, review, awarded, refunded, and cancelled. Any successful request therefore stores a state that SDK and website consumers do not recognize instead of performing the expected review → awarded transition.

Apply the required TypeScript handler conventions.
The exported PUT handler uses NextRequest only as a type, lacks JSDoc and an explicit return type, exceeds 20 lines, and uses prohibited abbreviations (req, err). Use a type-only import, add Promise<NextResponse>, rename the parameters, and extract helper logic.

Register the approval endpoint in the API service.
This root-level file is not registered as a route. The website App Router is not the SDK API host; the SDK uses the configured api.tiny.place base URL.
BountiesApi.approve sends POST /bounties/{id}/approve with { submissionId } or {} and expects a Bounty. This handler instead requires status and returns { success: true }.
Register the endpoint in the API service and match the SDK method, payload, and response contract. Otherwise, bounty approval cannot complete.

Use the same administrator predicate as the RLS policy.
The handler checks only user_roles, but the RLS policy also accepts auth.jwt() ->> 'role' = 'admin'. A JWT-only administrator receives 403 before the database policy can authorize the update.

Complete the payout before setting status to paid.
This handler updates only bounties.status. It does not settle the reward, set payoutTxSig, or create the required ledger entry. Unless an atomic trigger or worker performs and validates these operations, this path can expose a paid bounty without a completed payout.
