urMenuFold

Fold long macOS app menus into one focused menu item.

urMenuFold is a macOS menu utility for people who work on small screens or in apps with very long menu bars. When activated, it shows a compact AppName ▾ menu with app-level controls such as Hide, Hide & Switch, Return, Quit, Force Quit, exclusions, and settings.

Download the latest notarized DMG from the GitHub Releases page.

1. Open urMenuFold.dmg.
2. Drag urMenuFold.app into Applications.
3. Launch urMenuFold.
4. Use Command + Shift + M to activate or leave the folded menu.

The Developer ID build is signed and notarized by Apple.

Features

• Fold the active app's menu bar into a single AppName ▾ item while interacting with urMenuFold.
• Hide the represented app.
• Hide the represented app and switch to a configured target app.
• Return focus to the represented app.
• Quit or force quit the represented app with confirmation.
• Exclude apps that should keep their normal menu bar.
• Configure language, appearance, status item visibility, and shortcuts.
• English and Simplified Chinese UI.

Privacy and Permissions

urMenuFold is designed to avoid invasive permissions.

• No Accessibility permission.
• No screen recording permission.
• No code injection.
• No private APIs.
• No reading or proxying another app's full menu structure.
• Settings are stored locally with macOS UserDefaults.

Requirements

• macOS 13.0 or later
• Apple silicon build

Release Channels

• Developer ID DMG: public download from GitHub Releases.
• Mac App Store: planned/review-dependent channel. The App Store build uses App Sandbox.

Troubleshooting

If the global shortcut is unavailable, open Settings from the MF status item and record another shortcut.

If a specific app should never be folded, add it to Excluded Apps from Settings or from the folded menu.
