InitializationError: Couldn't connect to OpticStudio.

Hi there!

I am trying to zemax using pyzos, but I keep getting an initialization error:

The connection works fine with pyzdde module. Could you help me with this problem?

Hi @ahyunni,

Are you sure that the USB dongle for verifying license is plugged in? Have you recently re-installed OpticStudio?

If it is then, can you just run the following 3 lines (possibly in Python REPL) and see if the status?

from win32com.client.gencache import EnsureDispatch, EnsureModule

EnsureModule('ZOSAPI_Interfaces', 0, 1, 0)
connect = EnsureDispatch('ZOSAPI.ZOSAPI_Connection')

At this point if it gives a com_error, then, you might have to uninstall and reinstall OpticStudio. If there is no error up to this point, then try:

app = connect.CreateNewApplication()

If the above steps are successful, then at this point if you try

connect.IsAlive

you should expect to see True .
