A friend on the quick-try build saw the HUD and gear menu, but the wallpaper animation never appeared, only their own Windows wallpaper.

Why: Windows 11 24H2 builds the desktop differently ("raised" desktop). The icons (SHELLDLL_DefView) stay a direct child of Progman, and the WorkerW that 0x052C creates is also a child of Progman. attach-wallpaper.ps1 only knew the classic layout (two top-level WorkerWs), so it picked an unrelated window. The page stays at opacity 0 until the attach succeeds, so nothing showed.

Change (tools/attach-wallpaper.ps1):

  • Send 0x052C as 0xD, 1, the values Lively sends. Fall back to 0, 0 only if the first send made nothing, because Explorer reference-counts the split.
  • Raised layout: make the window a layered (alpha 255) child of Progman, directly below the icons and above Explorer's WorkerW.
  • Classic layout (Windows 10, 11 up to 23H2): unchanged.
  • Check success with GetParent instead of trusting the call's return value.
  • Version 0.1.2.

Tested: on Windows 10, a throwaway window lands in the same WorkerW with the new script and the old one, and re-attaching is stable.
Not tested: the 24H2 path. There is no 24H2 machine here, so the friend needs to confirm it.

The approach follows other projects' 24H2 fixes: beautiful-wallpaper#83, kirie#11, Desktop-app-Luna#1.

On 24H2 the desktop is "raised": Progman keeps the icons as a direct child
and the WorkerW that 0x052C makes is also a child of Progman. The old search
for a top-level WorkerW after the icons' host picked an unrelated window, so
the wallpaper stayed invisible (opacity 0) behind the Windows wallpaper.

- 0x052C is sent as 0xD, 1 (what Lively sends), falling back to 0, 0 only
when the first send made nothing
- raised layout: the window becomes a layered (alpha 255) child of Progman,
directly below SHELLDLL_DefView and above Explorer's WorkerW
- classic layout (Windows 10, 11 up to 23H2): unchanged
- success is checked with GetParent instead of trusting the call
