Disk Space Analyzer

AlexTkDev edited this page Oct 1, 2026 · 4 revisions

The Disk Space Analyzer shows where disk space is used inside a selected folder.

Usage

  1. Select a folder (Home, Downloads, Documents, Desktop, or any custom folder)
  2. The analyzer walks the folder (hidden files are skipped) and sorts files by size
  3. Filter by file category or use the search bar
  4. Navigate into subfolders with breadcrumb navigation
  5. Preview files in-place with Quick Look (select a file, press Space)
  6. Reveal files in Finder or move them to Trash

Navigation

The analyzer supports folder-level drill-down. Click a folder in the list to enter it. The breadcrumb bar shows the current path and lets you navigate back to any parent.

Search

The search field filters files by name or path within the current view.

Quick Look

Select a file and press Space to preview it with the system Quick Look panel — no need to open the file in another app.

File Categories

Recursive category filters: Videos, Audio, Photos, Apps, Documents, Archives (or All).

Sizing

Sizes use APFS allocated blocks (totalFileAllocatedSizeKey) so reported usage matches what the disk actually holds. Dataless iCloud items (not yet downloaded) are skipped to avoid misleading counts.

Trash Action

Files are moved to Trash (recoverable). Deletion is blocked for system directories and for files protected by the system privacy layer.
